🩵📌Just to say: we are proud to have been one of Pohoda Festival's media partners and feel deeply sorry for how the event turned out in the end, especially given the vast amounts of care and thought that goes into it every year as Michal Kaščák, the festival's founder, outlined in an interview we published (link below).

Nevertheless, we've been touched by the outpouring of immediate support and solidarity concerts for Pohoda and we hope to see it fly its colours high and proud next year. ✊

☀️ COME FOR POHODA, STAY FOR THE VALUES // “We have watched many clubs and festivals opening in the Czech Republic and many fitness centres opening in Slovakia.” Nowadays, the Pohoda Festival near Trenčín, Slovakia, is an internationally acclaimed award-winning three-day event but its seeds were sown by the Slovak hardcore scene nearly three decades ago. Michal Kaščák, Pohoda’s original founding father, explains this growth, the deeply rooted activist side of the event, and how the festival has been championing an above-standard ethical, ecological and diversity framework since the first edition.

THE IMMORTALISTS // London-based fashion designer Tanya Liu's intricate creations could be simply pigeonholed as ultimate mermaidcore – but they spring from much deeper sources. Lunchmeat Festival
Hearing/Seeing – OpenCall for young artists
Galerie Rudolfinum and the Czech Philharmonic, with the support of Lunchmeat Festival, invite young artists to participate in the “Hearing/Seeing” project as part of the Czech Year of Music 2024.

Join us for a project whose aim is to bring together contemporary visual art and the heritage of Czech classical music in a creative conversation. The result will be up to fifteen individual audiovisual works exhibited in the Rudolfinum Ceremony Hall. The project will also be shared through the social media channels of both institutions.

Submissions will be accepted from April 18th to June 2nd, 2024.

Form
Artists will create a visual piece in response to one of five musical extracts, in a format of H.264@30 fps in a 9:16 (portrait) aspect ratio. The result will then be a fusion of both components into a resultant audiovisual work.

The artists can choose from these five extracts
Smetana: Vltava (0:53)
Kaprálová: Suita rustica, I. Allegro rustico (0:54)
Martinů: Symphony no. 6, II. Poco Allegro (1:31)
Rychlík: African Cycle, III. (2:00)
Vöröšová: Lunapark, III. Shooting Range (1:59)

How to apply
Send a concept for your audiovisual work as a storyboard or still frame (and, optionally, a referential piece of moving image; this can be a sample from an existing work), and a concept proposal for the piece (250–500 words). This text should include an explanation of the planned images, with a focused on the time-based media character of the work and an understanding of the artistic or formal connection between the audio and video components.

Send your proposals by e-mail to [email protected] by June 2nd, 2024, with the subject as “Hearing/Seeing Lastname Firstname”. If you need to send more data, please share your materials through any file sharing site and add a link to your email. Get in touch at the same email address with any other questions.

The selected artists will be paid a fee of 15 000 CZK.

Samples of musical works and more information can be found on the Czech Philharmonic website here.
