Accent's theme for the Fall 2021 issue is "Fire"! We are looking for writers and all languages are welcome (with an English companion)! We're excited to see your work!

"Fire" Blurb:

"Everywhere we look, flames engulf us in different ways. What around you blazes, and how does it glow? From the inferno of passion, fire leads into motivation and impetus.

Wildfires impel us to reënvision how we understand disintegration, ruin, and renewal.

Do embers and smoke purify? The phoenix rises, revitalized, from flame.

How does fire burn through you?"

To submit intent (and later upload first draft):

MAPS Blurb:
"They say geographers never lose their way. Like them, our feet map the ground where we step. We choose our paths, unable to change the borders that history has drawn around us.

Maps are an inheritance from our ancestors and our enemies. They define our present boundaries and freedom, and in this way, denote both belonging and exclusion. While we all orient ourselves with the same map, our paths diverge, and our geographic memories influence our destinations.

We look at maps and see endless possibilities: countless borders to traverse. Why do these arbitrary lines determine our fate? Maps–both physical and spiritual–connect us to our roots and guide our paths. They can alienate–restricting our identities–or can illuminate, introducing us to new places. The multicultural world we live in surpasses the boundaries drawn on maps. How will you chart your destiny?"
