Welcome To Wartrace host Jerry Fox was born in Sayre, Oklahoma and raised in nearby Hobart where he became one of the nation's youngest radio disk jockeys when he obtained an FCC operator's permit at age eleven. He took up guitar at thirteen and formed his first rock and roll band at sixteen. With a degree in communications from Boston University, where he worked part time for NPR affiliate WBUR-FM, Jerry did stints as a morning drive DJ, news reporter, and program director at NBC and CBS affiliates in New England. Songwriting led the Oklahoman to Nashville in the late seventies where he landed a job playing bass and fronting the band for Epic recording artist Charly McClain who scored several number one hits. Jerry toured Europe twice with McClain. In the early eighties Jerry became a founding member and bass player for the country-rock band Bandana along with drummer/vocalist Lonnie Wilson, guitarist/vocalist Tim Mensey, keyboardist Joe Van D**e and drummer/vocalist Jerry Ray Johnston. Records and recorded seven chart singles including two top twenty hits. 'Outside Looking In', penned by Fox and Wilson, reached #13 in Radio & Records magazine's national survey. In addition to Nashville studio work Jerry played bass on the road with Crystal Gayle, Don Gibson, Terri Gibbs, and the legendary Merle Travis. He currently can be heard weekends freelancing with various bands in the Wartrace area. His other interests include cooking, history, travel, railroads, reading, writing, and football. Jerry says his favorite place on earth is the little town where time stands still, Wartrace, Tennessee.
