Information on the Republican nominee.
TOM FORKIN, the Public Safety Candidate for Mayor of Atlantic City 2020. As former Atlantic City Police Department (ACPD) Legal Adviser and a Former City Solicitor, Tom understands the importance of public safety and has pledged to expand the rank and file of both the ACPD & ACFD. Tom knows that tourists will not come to our city by the sea if they don’t feel safe and families will not move here for the same reason!
THE FORKIN PLAN: (If Elected):
TOP 10
1) Immediately reducing the pay of Mayor 1/3rd as there is NO justification for a Mayor to earn $150,000 a year when residents have unsustainable property taxes! Leadership and reductions must start at the top on down. Lead by example.
2) Filing the appropriate Constitutional and Civil Rights Action in Federal Court against the State; challenging the PILOT, S11 and the taking of 100% of our Luxury, Room and Parking Tax, which is 90+ million annually! This revenue stream would be directed to our Public Safety Budget which is 60% of our Budget! This will enable us to increase the rank and file numbers while lowering property taxes; sparking home ownership and small business development. We have already contacted a Law Firm who will file once the courts are reopened.
3) Enforce the existing City ordinance requiring ALL Directors to live in town! Only one director lives in Town (ACFD Scott Evans). Too many State appointed pension padders are draining our tax dollars. Our residents are our greatest asset and we have qualified people HERE to serve!
4) Reinstitute the CRDA Public Safety Mortgage Program from the 80s/90s in which the CRDA pays 10% down payment for ACFD & ACPD home purchase in AC conditioned on that being their residence for 10 years.
5) Retain our water company, and defeat continuing efforts to sell it to private interests. That is the play by Norcross and the Camden Dems to steal our remaining assets. Note the same people who have endorsed and support our Interim Mayor.
6) Develop Bader Field for mixed use, commercial and residential. Once property taxes are remedied development will be sparked. This would also involve a Bader Airport Museum as the worlds first “Airport.
7) Develop an effective relationship with the ACBOE as to spending and development of after school programs for our children.
8) Working with the County as to properly assessing casinos and other property in Atlantic City, removing the State from the mix.
9) Expedite a plan to effectively develop Gardner’s Basin! While funds have been appropriated, NO PLAN is known!?
10) Create 100% transparency in City Government! No hidden agendas; creating real opportunities for ALL residents!!
