Hi everyone!! I'm so happy to announce that we met our rent fundraiser goal! We just got home after dropping off our rent!

We raised enough funds to not only pay our rent, but to actually cover next month's rent and bills as well!

I can't describe how grateful we are right now. A week ago I felt numb and hopeless. I was so exhausted after fundraising and had truly given up. Thank you so much to our friends and community for rallying around us and motivating us to keep going.

Every single local homelessness prevention and rent aid non-profit we reached out to either didn't answer our calls or programs were at full capacity. We had nowhere else to turn and I was terrified everything we've struggled for years to maintain was going to fall apart.

On top of the sudden news that we had a week to pay our rent, last week we were informed that our lease will not be renewed at the end of August, so if you have apartment recommendations in Omaha, please DM me on here or Instagram!

Again, I can't put into words how stressful this past week has been, while also utterly life-changing.

We have 4 days to raise $730 to avoid eviction. Our deadline is June 17, 2023. We received an email from our property manager on Monday stating that we had 7 days to pay our past due rent for this month and that they would not be allowing us the 30 days that they have allowed us in the past.

After reaching out to multiple local non-profits for rent support, we have come up empty handed and couldn't so much as get a human being to answer the phone.

We are so grateful for all of the support we received this past month. Thanks to all of your shares and donations, we were able to pay our past due rent from May and avoid eviction for another month.

This was a very difficult month for us. On top of fundraising, we've had to put a lot of energy and resources into Tierra's daily wound care (she had an abscess that was operated on in April and is still healing), and dealing with the shame and guilt of needing to fundraise to survive. I say all of that to say that our stress has been through the roof.

During the month of April, we endured multiple health crises in addition to our longstanding, financial hardship. We had to visit the ER multiple times due to an abscess that Tierra had, which ultimately resulted in her having it operated on being admitted to the hospital for 3 long, stressful days. We've had some minor complications since she was discharged from the hospital but Tierra is on a road towards recovery.

Thanks to the support we received last month, we will only be needing to fundraise for rent this month, rather than rent, bills, and groceries, which is a huge relief.

Please help us remain housed as we focus on Tierra's healing and gradually shift our focus back to searching for suitable employment. And stay updated by viewing the Fundraiser Highlight on our Instagram account.

*Although our rent is not officially due until 06/07/23, aiming to finish our fundraiser by 06/05 allows us time for donated funds to finish pending in our accounts and allows us time to organize transportation so that we can pay our rent.

Thank you so much everyone for sharing and contributing to our fundraiser!! Thanks to an extra generous donation we've not only met our goal just in time for our deadline, but we've EXCEEDED it! With the extra funds we're able to cover our bills for May!

For those not in the know, this past month Tierra and I have been in and out of the hospital due to a sudden, baseball sized mass appearing in her left breast. It soon developed an extremely painful abscess which required a minor surgery and multiple hospital stays. One of which entailed a 12 hour overnight wait at the ER and eventually being admitted into the hospital for 3 days. This delayed our ability to fundraise as we focused on Tierra's pain and care. Though she's healing now, there's still a long road of recovery and treatment ahead of us.
We intend to begin fundraising to cover May's upcoming rent in the following days. Our hope is that we may finally be able to catch up so we are no longer paying our rent as late as we have been. We were informed by our landlord last month that our numerous late payments may result in our lease not being renewed. So, please keep an eye out for that post, and share it!

Thanks to everyone's support, donations, and shares, we were able to finally meet our fundraiser goal. 💓💓💓 We are quickly approaching the beginning of March, so please keep an eye out for our upcoming fundraiser for next month's rent and bills. 🍀🍀🍀
