Deadline Day.
We hope that you all made the most of the weather over the weekend. If you caught a fish that you would like to see in The Freshwater Informer then make sure that we receive your catch reports anfld photos by 5pm today to be included in the September edition.
I managed to get out for the day with a feeder rod in the hope of targeting some tench and bream, but it turned out that the carp had other ideas...
Good fun on light tackle though, and nice to be out on the bank.
Have a great day 👍 🎣
Surface Fishing - exciting but frustrating!🎣🎣
Congratulations to Jayden Brett as this months winner of the Sussex bait developments bait package for the capture of an incredible 35lb 8oz common. A fish that beat dad Damien's pb by some margin!
To be in with a chance of winning next month's prize, as well as competitions sponsored by Fish With Carl and Parker Baits, send your catches to [email protected] or via the website at www.freshwaterinformer.com
Remember, winners are chosen as much for the story behind a capture, and the quality of the photograph, as they are for pounds and ounces.
Good luck 👍 🎣🎣
TOP TIP TUESDAY
Please use sun cream while fishing in the UK it is important for several reasons:
1, UV Protection: Even on cloudy days, UV rays from the sun can pe*****te through the clouds and cause damage to your skin. Sun cream (sunscreen) helps to block these harmful UV rays and prevent sunburn, which can be painful and increase your risk of skin cancer over time.
2, Reflection from Water: When fishing, you're often near water, which can reflect and amplify the sun's rays. This reflection increases your exposure to UV radiation, making sun protection essential.
3, Long Hours Outdoors: Fishing trips can last for several hours, especially during the summer months when the sun's intensity is higher. Continuous exposure without protection can lead to sunburn and long-term skin damage.
4, Prevention of Skin Aging: UV radiation contributes to premature aging of the skin, including wrinkles, age spots, and loss of elasticity. Using sun cream helps to mitigate these effects and keep your skin looking healthier for longer.
5, Health and Comfort: Sunburn can be extremely uncomfortable, causing pain, redness, and even blistering. It can also ruin your fishing trip by making you feel unwell and unable to enjoy the time on the bank.
In summary, applying sun cream while fishing in the UK (or anywhere outdoors) is crucial to protect your skin from UV rays, prevent sunburn, and reduce the risk of long-term skin damage and health issues.
Good morning everyone,
We hope that you all had an enjoyable weekend.
No fishing for me, but I did manage to find a bit of time for tea, cake and a good book - all of which were very enjoyable 😀
Remember, if you've caught a fish that you would like featured in The Freshwater Informer you can send it to use via messenger, email @ [email protected] or our website www.freshwaterinformer.com
It's gonna be a hot one ☀️

10 yr old Buddy Lawrence with a PB common of 34lbs, and one of the most entertaining trophy shots we've seen for a while👍🎣
Good morning everyone,
I managed to find the time to take a little stroll along the River Dudwell (a tributary of the Rother, which is more of a stream really) where I spotted this little trout parr. Whether he's a Brown Trout or a Seatrout, I couldn’t really say, but it was nice to see, and gave me some hope for our local rivers.
Have a great weekend 👍 🎣
Sad News,
We have received reports that there has been a confirmed outbreak of KHV at the Gedges Lake complex, Paddock Wood, controlled by PWACS. (The club has taken appropriate steps to limit the spread)
KHV is a highly contagious viral disease that specifically affects Carp, and can result in a 100% mortality rate of infected fish.
Although there is no cure, it is vitally important that we, as anglers, take precautions to avoid the spread of this disease which affects a number of fisheries each year.
The best course of action is to make sure you make use of any chemical dip tanks placed at your chosen Fishery, before fishing, and thoroughly dry any nets, mats, or slings in direct sunlight after fishing, as the UV light kills the virus, to help limit the potential spread of the disease.
How to spot KHV
The disease occurs in water temperatures between 16°C and 29°C. Stress events can trigger an outbreak. Fish often become lethargic and gather at water inlets or in the shallows.
If you see any fish in distress, be sure to report them to the Bailiff, Fishery, or controlling Club.
Symptoms can include;
Patches of dead (necrotic) tissue in the gills, often with secondary fungal or bacterial infection. ...
Sunken eyes.
Over or under production of mucus.
Rough, dry patches of skin.
Sloughing of mucus.
Appearance of bleeding on skin and base of fins.
Patchy pale colouration or reddening of the skin.

It's national fishing month, and The Freshwater Informer has been doing its bit by introducing 12yr old Jack Ayles to our great sport.
A poor choice of venue and tactics on my part (a hugely overgrown lake and legering in heavy silt...) made things far harder than they needed to be, but eventually our efforts paid off and young Jack managed to convert my lack of foresight into fish on the bank.
Well done Jack👍🎣🎣

SUMMER PROMOTION
Despite the warmer conditions, we do remain open throughout the Summer, and continue to stock when possible. We do appreciate though that fly fishing at small stillwaters such as ours will be trickier and much less fruitful. Therefore when you purchase a day ticket during August, if you don't catch, then we will give you a £10 voucher to be used on a return visit throughout October 2024 only.
_Ts&Cs apply: only one voucher can be redeemed at a time in October, and the voucher is only valid against a day ticket, not tackle or coaching etc._
Good morning everyone,
Ryan, and the rest of the TSF Team, had a productive trip to Orchard Place Farm Fishing Lakes with carp to 18lb and cats to 24lb.
Enjoy your day 👍🎣🎣

Remembering Jack Hargreaves OBE For many, the theme tune alone is enough to transport us back to simpler times. Today marks 30yrs since Jack Hargreaves passed away. A passionate countryman and angler, he brought a snapshot of rural life into the living rooms of millions of people each week, through his television programmes Out Of Town and Old Country. It's almost impossible to overstate the impact that he had on multiple generations of anglers. Thankfully, for those looking for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, many of the old episodes are available on YouTube, on a channel run by his old producer, David Knowles.
