As you are all well aware, I am very proud of my Italian/Sicilian roots. I'm sure that growing up an only child, surrounded by loving family, and in a community with many kind and generous first generation Italian Americans who shaped my life, has had a great influence on my desire to keep those memories alive. It was a great time to grow up in America. If you happen upon my "Sinatra Sunday", you
also know how passionate I am about his music and the other great interpreters of what is known as "The Great American Songbook,"
A while back I was introduced to a wonderful gentleman... Vinnie Lombardi...we began talking about this amazing music, and it's connections with Italian American artists such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc. I was blown away by Vinnie's passion and knowledge. He began telling stories that astounded me about dozens of singers and songs. Vinnie is truly a devoted disciple, and wealth of knowledge about this same music that is such a big part of my life...and many of the "Baby Boomer" generation. It was then and there I felt that his lifelong hobby of collecting and cataloging this "History" of Italian music as it related to popular American music, had to be shared. I reached out to my good friend Chuck Benfer at Clear Channel Radio to discuss the concept, knowing that he would give it to me straight. We kicked around the possibility of a weekly radio program that focused on these timeless Artists, their connection to Italian music and culture, and generally, a show that would pay homage to the songs that are the "Soundtrack" to many of our lives. Whether you are young or old...this music brings back great memories. Chuck agreed to give us a shot, and I am so proud to announce today, that the Premier Radio Broadcast of "Cafe Italia" will air this coming SUNDAY JANUARY 12TH AT 11 AM on WKIP 1450 AM on your radio dial if you are in the Hudson Valley of New York radio listening area. It is truly my honor to co-host this show with Vinnie Lombardi...or as I call him..."The Dean of The College of Musical Knowledge"
It is a ONE HOUR show of great music, behind the scenes stories about the songs and the Artists that recorded some of the best in Italian and American popular music... from the 40's right up to today! So...put on a pot of Espresso, break out the Cannoli, relax, and join us this Sunday, and every Sunday at 11 AM on WKIP 1450 on your AM Dial, for an hour of what I promise to be big fun, great music, and wonderful memories! Cafe Italia will also be broadcast at the same time on... iHeartRADIO (search WKIP) and streaming at 1450WKIP.com on the internet and around the world. Grazie a Tutti and Ciao, Ciao!!!
