AUDIO-VIDEO COMMUNICATORS FOR
DEVELOPMENT AND EDUCATION
The audio-video communication media have seen exponential growth in the last few years. There are also some genuine concerns regarding the way this very power has the potential of getting misused and manipulated. This is a matter of concern for us as parents, teachers and society at large. There is a need to ensure their quality in
today’s age of proliferating audio-video channels. There is need to focus attention on its other important functions such as - development, education, enrichment, appreciation of art and culture, which appear to have been marginalised. There is a need to do something about it and AV-CODE is conceived from this viewpoint. It is a trust established under the Bombay Trust Act (Registration No. F/12416/Ahmedabad, Date of Registration: October 18, 2006). AV-CODE is set up to work constructively towards the advancement, dissemination and creative application of the knowledge of audio and video communication for Development and Education. Professionals from a cross-section of fields representing the media, education and others will endeavour to promote active interaction among all persons, bodies, institutions (private and /or state owned) and industries interested in the use of audio-video technologies for development and education in their broadest sense. The aim is to use the potential of the audio- video technologies for improving the overall quality of life. AV-CODE will attempt to do this through various means:
Seminars, lectures, debates, panel discussions, conferences and film shows on topics of national and local interest;
Production of audio/video programmes related to subjects of development and education;
Discussions pertaining to research and teaching in audio and video communication for Development and Education;
Training programmes for a variety of disciplines – like academic resource persons, subject experts, producers, researchers, scriptwriters etc. - working/desirous of working in related fields would also be taken up in order to build a qualified and motivated work force in the field;
It also proposes to arrange special programmes for students of communication and journalism to encourage and harness their ideas, enthusiasm and skills. Creating appropriate forums, platform to generate a movement for more significant use of the audio-video media
