We spent a long weekend in beautiful Cripple Creek, CO. Once known as " the World's Greatest Gold Camp",  the area is full of history, family friendly attractions, gorgeous mountain views, and some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.

If you have never been to Cripple Creek, or the surrounding area, you need to add this iconic little mining town to your Colorado bucket list.

Here are a few of the things I recommend doing while visiting the area:
•  Stroll Little Grose Mtn Trail for some amazing views of the Sangre de Cristos Mtns.
•Visit Colorado's newest troll, Rita.
• Visit the Cripple Creek Donkeys.
•Learn about the areas rich history at the Cripple Creek Visitor's Center.
•Try your luck at one of the town's casinos
• Check out the many historic mining structures,  and take peek I side the area's active gold mine from the Newmark Mine Overlook.
•Visit one (or more) of the town's museums.
• Take the town's walking ghost tour.
•Shop for a one-of-a-kind item at the
•Stay at the beautiful

Colorado just got its second troll! Her name is "Rita, the Rock Planter", and she lives on Little Grouse Trail in Victor.

I had the extremely cool opportunity to spend a day with Dambo, his team, and a group of amazing volunteers, working on the construction of his latest troll. I arrived on the last day, so my job was primarily helping with site clean-up and rock hauling... lots of rock hauling. And even though Rita, was pretty much completed on the day I volunteered, it was still a ton of fun and so inspiring to watch Dambo add his finishing touches to bring his art to life. In the end, it took 8 days, and the help of over 50 volunteers to get Dambo's 119th troll ready for the public.

Rita is built next to an old gold mining hole, and like all of Dambo's trolls, she has a story behind her placement and pose:
"She took a nap back in the late 1800s and when she woke up here again, like a couple of weeks ago, she noticed a couple of small holes in the mountain, she said 'Oh that's dangerous, maybe a squirrel or a human or somebody would fall into the hole and get hurt' so that is why Rita is now covering up the holes so nobody will get hurt." -Thomas Dambo

I highly recommend making the trip over to see Colorado's newest troll. Aside from getting to checkout RIta, herself, the site she's built on offers incredible views of Cripple Creek, the active CC&V gold mine, and the Sangre de Cristo mountains.

Here are a few things to know before you go:
