Social media marketing today needs to evoke emotion in your readers so they'll share your post. That's a generic way of saying your content needs to be sharable in order to get more reach.

REMEMBER: How does your content make you feel? Would you share your businesses content?

Have you seen this yet? Instagram has announced another expansion of its Notes messaging feature, with users now able to leave Notes on both Reels and feed posts in the app.

With the new notes feature, your followers are now able to add a note from the messaging menu, providing another way to interact with friends, essentially acting like Post-It type messages that are attached to the update.

Notes are temporary (they last for three days), and can only be left by mutual follows, adding a simple option to spark interaction among your friends.

Would you use this feature?

Instagram is set to introduce AI characters created by users, with initial tests launching in the U.S. Mark Zuckerberg mentioned that these AI characters will first appear in messaging.

Meta will initially begin testing the feature with around 50 creators and a small percentage of users, and will then roll it out to more people over the next couple of months, with the hope of having it fully launched by August.

“It’s early days and the first beta version of these AIs, so we’ll keep working on improving them and make them available to more people soon,” Zuckerberg said. He added, "A big part of the approach is going to be enabling every creator, and then eventually also every small business on the platform, to create an AI for themselves to help them interact with their community, and their customers if they’re a business".

Do you like this idea?

Unskippable video ads in your main Instagram feed? How would that work?

According to various reports, Instagram is currently testing out a new video ad format that does indeed stop users from scrolling in the main feed of the app until they’ve viewed a video ad.

As Instagram explains, you’ll actually need to view the ad before you can keep scrolling, so these are essentially unskippable video ads in IG form.

Which, as you can imagine, is not going down great with Instagram users.

So why would Instagram do it?

Well, now that your main Instagram feed is half filled by AI-recommended content from profiles that you don’t follow, predominantly short-form Reels video clips, that presents a great opportunity for Meta to add in more promotions, because if 50% of the content in your feed is from profiles that you don’t follow anyway, you’re not going to be as affronted by ads within that stream.

But the scroll-stopping part, I’m not so sure about. What are your thoughts on this?

Remember how Instagram sparked a wave of concern among creators last week when it published a video which explained that asking your audience to comment on a post with a single word could impact your post reach? And similarly how posting reels longer than 90 seconds will hurt your reach?

Well, Instagram’s now sought to add some additional qualifications to its advice, to ensure that people understand exactly what those impacts might be, while also providing some extra notes on its broader approach to CTAs, Reels recommendations, and more.

Or is it MORE confusing? Let us know in the comments what you think about their clarification.

Meta’s AI inject itself into the comment section with summaries of what people say. Given how wild Facebook comment sections often become, it’s not hard to imagine how ridiculous some of these summaries turn out. It’s still not clear how Meta chooses which posts to display comment summaries on, but it could help you identify posts where the comment section has gotten too toxic to bother scrolling.

The AI summaries have also prompted privacy concerns, as Meta is feeding user comments into its AI system to generate them.

Here in the US, Meta’s privacy policy page says the company uses “information shared on Meta’s Products and services” to train AI, including posts, photos, and captions. Meta lets you submit a request to correct or delete personal information used to train its AI models, but it only applies to information from a third party. Everything else seems to be fair game.

What are your thoughts about this? Are you ok with having your FB data train Meta's AI? Let us know in the comments

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri recently shared key insights on how Instagram prioritizes content reach:

Share Rates: Shares are now the top priority - more than likes, comments, or watch time.

Shift in Focus: There is a shift from interaction in-stream (likes, comments) to keeping viewers watching video clips.

Growth Drivers: Facebook and Instagram's growth is driven by how long users watch videos, but share rate is the primary focus.

Algorithm Ranking:
* Share rates
* Watch time
* Comment rates
* Like rates

The fact is that fewer people are commenting, and instead looking to social media for entertainment.

So, how can you drive more shares of your content?

Focus on entertainment, and create posts with what prompts people to want to show others that clip or post.

🚨Important News About The Shift In Social Media🚨

Are you frustrated with your social media marketing? Not seeing the reach or engagement you'd like?

There's been a huge shift in social media marketing. While short-form video and generative AI have changed content creation, the biggest shift has been the move away from interaction towards straight entertainment.

Yep, social media isn't that social anymore, thanks to TikTok. Platforms are now focused on time spent in-app, showing content to keep you scrolling and watching, but not necessarily engaging.

People are turning to social media for entertainment and escapism. This means more time spent consuming AI-recommended video clips and less commenting or engaging.

So, what can you do?

🔹Produce more Reels (less than 90 seconds) so your content appears as recommended videos.

🔹Mix up content with carousels and images to keep your audience interested.

🔹Be entertaining. Experiment with weird, funny, or different takes on topics. For example, if the Rolling Stones are coming to town, roll a stone and say you can't wait to see them.

🔹Jump on trends from TikTok and IG, but apply them to your business.

🔹Create characters talking to one another in your videos. Use wigs or outfits to differentiate characters. It can be entertaining and informative.

🔹Ask for opinions. People love to give their opinions. Make it easy for your audience to comment, like "comment with an emoji" or "comment with 👍👎."

🔹Include a human element in images, whether it's a person or just hands holding a phone. People in images get more engagement because they're relatable.

Inform and educate your audience creatively instead of just presenting the facts.

What other creative ideas do you have to get people to leave a comment?

You might have already seen Gemini-powered search results in Google, and it's rumored that ChatGPT will come out with it's own generative AI search engine, so how will generative AI change our search habits?

The first change is an appearance one: the new Search experience, which is already in the process of being rolled out, will provide generated answers to some queries, ahead of actual website links.

What's good about this is that you get an actual answer to whatever you're searching for instead of a bunch of sponsored links.

What's bad about this is it could take traffic away from websites. How? Well, if you find your answer in the generated ai response, why would you scroll further down to click on a website link?

Presumably, there’ll be other new SEO processes that emerge as a result, and it is worth noting that these AI generated summaries will not be shown for all queries, just those that Google detects as a good candidate for these replies.

But regardless of the scale, there will be impacts, and it will change the SEO game, at least in some respects.

What are your thoughts about this?

BIG NEWS: In case you haven't heard, Instagram recently said that posting Reels longer than 90 seconds can actually hurt your reach in the app.

But Alicia, Reels are only supposed to be 90 seconds, so what does this mean?

First, let's clarify: There are Reels that are official Reels, and those are videos that are 90 seconds or less, and most often are created inside the Instagram app. Then, there are Reels that are really longer videos that Instagram automatically turns into Reels.

But now, Instagram is saying that those longer videos that you upload & are automatically turned into Reels will hurt your reach.

To be clear, it's NOT saying that you can't use those videos, but it's saying those videos won't get distributed or shown to as many people, hence, hurting your reach. Yes, your loyal followers will see still see the longer videos. Yes, they will still be on your grid. But no, they aren't going to be your bread and butter for engagement and reach because Instagram won't show the longer videos to new people who aren't following you.

Are you a YouTube Premium subscriber?

Jump Ahead uses AI to guess what you're trying to watch, analyzing the points where most other viewers jumped ahead and where they eventually started watching again. The feature is rolling out to all YouTube Premium subscribers.

Currently, the Jump Ahead feature only works in the Android app for now and only for select English-language videos (most likely meaning videos with a lot of views and watch data that the AI can use).

To use the Jump Ahead feature, opt in at the Google Labs page for YouTube, which you can find at www.youtube.com/new. After you've enabled the feature, double-tap to skip ahead as usual. When you do so, you'll see the new button. Tap it, and the app will take you -- hopefully -- to the spot you're looking for.

What are your thoughts on this?

For creators who make money on their YouTube videos, and given that view time impacts how much revenue a video generates, are they going to welcome a feature that lets their viewers easily cut down that time?

Instagram has made a significant change to the algorithm in hopes of better serving smaller creators. But what does this mean for YOU?

From IG's announcement:
➡️ "Every piece of eligible content is shown to a small audience that we think will enjoy it"

➡️ Top performing posts in these audience subsets will get more distribution and placements

➡️ If two pieces of identical content are found, only the original post will get the additional distribution and placement (Explore, suggested, etc.)

➡️ If there is identical content found, they will REPLACE the reshared/reused content with the original piece from the original creator

➡️ If your content is reused, a label will be applied to their post giving you creator credit and you will receive a notification that content is being given your attribution

➡️ They will also punish accounts that repeatedly repost others' content

⚠️ These changes are primarily for Reels but I'm hoping it'll impact feed posts as well.

⚠️ Note that if someone remixes your Reel, that is considered their "original" content so that won't apply to this rule.

⚠️ This is for distribution to non-followers through results in Explore and in recommended posts. This should not impact how your current followers experience your content.

⭐ These changes are designed to give credit to original creators and reward smaller accounts with the reach and distribution they deserve, not rewarding large following accounts with more views.

❓ So what does this mean for YOU?

In general, this should be a good thing. It means giving you attribution for the content you've created.

It also indicates a KEY shift in that IG will intentionally share your posts (again, focused on Reels) with a select audience along with other similar content. If your content performs well in the small subset of viewers, it'll be shown to more people and so on as long as it continues to perform well.

This puts a higher weight than ever before on the POPULARITY of your posts. But that's still weighted based on users it's shown to, not the size of your audience.

So get out there and create those Reels to reach those audiences!

If artificial intelligence-supported chatbots begin to dominate people's attention, communicators and marketers will seek to influence the chatbots' conversations. This could be the next mutation of search engine optimization (SEO).

"[They] need to be able to define exactly the type of information that goes in, because if someone asks ChatGPT for a restaurant recommendation, for example, and [their]restaurant is withholding its information and data, then it's not going to recommend it."

What are your thoughts on this? Should marketers influence chatbots' conversations & search results? Will marketers ruin AI?

Have you noticed that Meta changed how you search for things on Facebook & Instagram?

Meta AI has been fully integrated across its family of apps, but many users are frustrated because they're trying to search for something but end up talking to AI instead.

Here's what you should know:

Clicking on the blue send button in the search bar on Instagram and Facebook now opens Meta AI instead of the typical search results, leading to confusion for some users. Tapping on search suggestions with the circular blue Meta AI icon will also trigger the AI assistant. (Users can still search by hitting enter instead or by tapping on results with the gray magnifying glass icon.)

But no, you can't turn it off.

A Meta spokesperson confirmed that, as of now, there is no official way to disable Meta AI.

“Meta AI aims to be a helpful assistant and is in the search bar to assist with your questions,” a spokesperson wrote in an email. “You can’t disable it from this experience, but you can search how you normally would engage with a variety of results.”

What are your thoughts on this? Have you used Meta AI yet?

Personally, if you're paying attention, you'll be able to see the difference right away, but I understand where the frustration is coming from.
