A while Back A friend (Henry WA6HXA) gave me a Shure 55S “Elvis “Microphone. The Microphone needed some work plus it needed a custom made stand adapter. My Buddy (Ernie K6EOM) made the Adapter for me. I offer a hearty THANK you to both of you. I got the Microphone back yesterday and finally connected it today to my studio Computer. Now to restart playing / testing with it and see what happens.

We went up to the Friends of the library bookstore today for a special artist’s event (picked up some great carrot cake there). In any case I struck up a conversation with my buddy John, who convinced me that as a member of the bookstore it was my duty to take home some 78 RPM to save them from the trash can.

This evening I just had to escape back in to world of 78 RPM records and just do some “Shellac ZEN”
So I browsed through the album and believe it or not I found song titles that lead to story ideas and record podcasts. What was really important was to just listen to the music (noise, scratches and all ) and let the mind wander for a minute. The shows will take some time to produce

The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Country singer, C.W. McCall, has died, this according to Rolling Stone.

McCall, whose real name was William Dale Fries Jr., released over half a dozen studio albums, during the course of his career. Though the US Country Chart was where he found the most success, his truck driving anthem, “Convoy” allowed him to make a major splash on the Pop Chart. “Convoy” drove all the way to #1, on the US Country & Billboard Hot 100 Charts. The tribute to truckers even conquered the charts in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. “Convoy” conveyed life on the road and used lingo which was common amongst the unsung heroes. The 1975 smash hit was the inspiration for a film of the same name, which would star Kris Kristofferson.

Country music fans also remember him for, “Roses For Mama” which narrowly missed the top spot when it landed at #2 on the Country Chart, in 1977.

McCall would eventually pursue a career in politics and serve as mayor of Ouray, Colorado.

McCall was 93, at the time of his passing. His memory will live on through his music.

I still astounds me that old 78 RPM records has led to so many other things to learn

Sometimes one learns so much by just doing it

I finally had a couple of minutes to experiment (OK play with) my stereo microphone that I got for my DSLR Camera. So I set it up on my tripod and recorded a record playing. I know this is not an academy award film but I learned several new things today
(1) My Camera USB cable is too short to reach PC [Extension cable ordered]
(2) Microphones need a screen to cut out unwanted /extra noise
(3) Hard to figure out proper focus point [Work in progress]
(4) Editing software needed payment and registration [Completed]
(5) Need to figure out how to get cellphone to take flash photo
(6) Canon photo software works on my PC, BUT I wonder if it works with Microphone plugged in???
The good news is despite all the above I did create a 3:08 film that sounded pretty good. I deleted it because of above reasons
Reward? Time to go and read my book and prepare for tomorrow’s adventures
