The title of this blogsite, NotFeatured, has 3 key interpretations which inform everything that we do here:
1. NotFeatured is organised and updated by new up-and-coming writers and journalists who perhaps have had limited opportunities in the mainstream print and online media as major media companies struggle with the twin threats of a changing business model and an ever-deepening recession/depr
ession.As mainstream media organisations trim back operations, opportunities for aspiring journalists are limited and this site intends to give those journalists and writers a platform for their work without the pressure of bottom lines and profit margins.
2. The absence of financial pressure we hope will also allow for NotFeatured to look at topics from slightly different angles and perspecties that in other media outlets. This is not a breaking news site and as such, our writers have time to watch a story develop and consider its context and implications before making a comment. Because of this, we hope to be able to give rounded and considered analysis in a way that the more-deadline constrained media cannot.
3. Finally, it is one of our goals here at NotFeatured to allow writers to write about personal areas of interest that they can research in detail over time and then have the space to produce pieces, perhaps in longform, that you would not get anywhere else. These topics might include environmental issues, scientific endeavours, tensions in a region of the world often ignored or a long-forgotten sports story. These are the articles that due to various issues of time constraints and newworthiness may simply be ignored elsewhere. We hope to do all of the above and more while presenting our content in an accessible, fun yet worthwhile way to our readers.
