Posted • It’s a week of WTF and two headed cats, but at least we have music. I’ll be hosting Foggy Notion today, Wednesday, Jan 22, 2-4pm, on 91.1fm and streaming worldwide at WTJU.net/player. I’ll start out with a soulful set and then continue with old and new oddities. Hear new songs by Bonnie Prince Billy, Rose City Band, Kim Deal, and more. Hear old songs by Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Gale Garnett, and more. Hear an inspiring song by Dolly Parton (for 💋). Hear some psych and some folk and at least one screamy song. On Saturday, January 18, from 8-9pm, ’s Third Rail welcomes alternative doom folk project, , to the WTJU Stage. This free event is open to all at 2244 Ivy Road with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are not required but donations to the band are encouraged. You can also listen live on 91.1 FM, stream via wtju.net, and video stream on WTJU’s Facebook and YouTube channels. Third Rail is supported by .goodbye.cville.

Night Teacher is the project of lead singer-songwriter Lilly Bechtel, whose haunting voice and poetic lyrics weave elements of doom-folk and alt-rock to create an experience that listeners have described as part seance, part lullaby. Since the 2020 release of her debut record Night Teacher, Bechtel has been featured on NPR, won Best Song in the Experimental Film and Music Video festival and was noted by the music magazine Relix as an “artist to pay attention to.” In February 2023 Bechtel released an EP, Dear Ellen, and she is currently working on her second full-length album, to be released in October 2025. Rather than Classical overnights, the WTJU Charlottesville Classical Marathon ends with a three hour live program: “Marmalade on a Starfish-Light Psych With Strings” Sunday, Dec 15, 10pm to 1am. WTJU Rock’s resident Psych Doctors — Sister Pirate Jenny (Radio Freedonia), the Zostress (Foggy Notion), and Don H (Radio Wowsville) — conclude the Classical Marathon with a kaleidoscopic mind bouquet of beautiful “pop-sike” wonder. Thrill gently to the strains and strings of the Left Banke, Fuchsia, the Poppy Family, Donovan, Vashti Bunyan, and other deliciously twee practitioners of altered mellow mood swings. In June, 2024, (who works with Meg Remy’s U.S. Girls) released her second album New Love Meditation (with cover art by Meg Remy) on Good Cry Records. Richards describes the album as, “Space for dreaming, space for grieving, space for love, space for life, space for death. A space to hold these and everything else is all I ever hope for!” Her first album, The Language Shadow (with cover art by Charlottesville artist, Allyson Melberg-Taylor), was released in 2020.
