Happy birthday to
You are an amazing wife, mom, daughter, teacher, and I’m lucky to call you my best friend. You gave me a daughter that looks like me, a son that looks like you, and I could not be more grateful for our family. I’m rubber, you’re glue. I keep our family bouncing along, and you keep it all together. Plus you have over 100 students coming through your classroom every day. You are simply amazing. I’m sorry I will never break an Olympic record and run over and kiss you in the stands while the whole world cheers us on. It’s not because I can’t, I just don’t want to because I am very tired. But I promise I will never grow tired of loving you. ❤️

My daughter is now 4 years old. My son turned 1 in February. It’s happening so fast. I am so thankful for these days. Thank you for the beautiful venue and for the bounce houses. Thank you for letting me dress up as a “friendly dragon” first, then hand out swords and blast the Game of Thrones theme song while the kids got to slay the “grumpy dragon.” Ruby, you amaze me every single day and you are so loved and cherished and I can’t wait to see what you do next. Take your time growing up, please. Life is good. God is good.

Yesterday we celebrated 7 years of marriage. I am so thankful to be able to build a life with such an incredibly kind, beautiful and loving person. You are my best friend and I love you forever. (and Thanks for taking pictures of our kids and including me in the shot as I make sure kids don’t fall out of chairs 😆😘❤️)

Ruby Tuesday - ❤️🎊 - Erin and I had New Year’s Eve tickets to the symphony but it was cancelled the day before due to COVID, so we dressed up, set up dance floor lights and had a family dance party in the living room that I will never forget. Ruby went to the Van Gogh Experience for about 10 minutes before we realized this was not a “run around while screaming” type of event, and Ruby was in a “run around while screaming” type of mood. She also got super mad when we wouldn’t let her swim in the BJCC fountain 😆 Sometimes unsuccessful outings can create funny memories. Ruby saw snow for the first time since she learned to walk and she took to it pretty well. I put in majorly long hours at work moving the studio across town over this Christmas break and I appreciate my wonderful wife so much for being as understanding as humanly possible and I am proud of what I was able to get done with the incredible team of engineers and staff ...now time for a nap.

This is my buddy, Sam. Today would have been his 36th birthday. He was the kindest and most caring friend I’ve ever had. He was in my wedding and he was the last surviving member of my high school rock band. And he was my brother. I sang in his funeral a couple weeks ago on what was my 36th birthday. I sang Amazing Grace and I snuck in a chorus of “Amber” by 311. Sam really would have gotten a kick out of that. I don’t know all that will come from losing Sam, but I know what I gained from knowing him. He taught me how to be a friend whether you are roommates or you live across the country. He taught me to laugh at myself a little. And man did we laugh a lot. Sam is now in a perfect place where there is no sadness. Where one day is like 1,000 years and 1,000 years is like one day. And those that love Sam will one day be reunited with him and to Sam, it will be like a blink of eye.

So, this is not “goodbye,” this is “see you soon.”

He was a drummer’s drummer, a friend’s friend and a brother’s brother. And he was my brother.

Ruby Tuesday 🎄 🖍 Ruby loves reading and coloring with her mom and her giant bunny. The reading and coloring never end, in fact 😆 you are a rockstar mom. Ruby had all the red icing she could handle at her class Christmas party and she is learning to be brave and walk in leaves without asking for “Up! Up!” She also had French toast for the first time... She’s getting so big. We can’t wait for Christmas with this little gift from God.

Today is their 40th anniversary. I took this picture this morning as we waited in the wings for the cue to go back on stage and lead worship at church. Im amazed at how many times they’ve done this and kept their same drive and passion and skill and desire to to show people the love of God. Plus they run the best wedding venue in the country ...I’m so thankful for every time I get to play drums with them and I’m so thankful for their example of what it means to be a married couple that loves Jesus... I love them so much.

Ruby Tuesday 🎅 Ruby had a blast taking pictures with Santa and didn't want it to end! She actually did have fun going to see her mom at a basketball game, but Ruby was confused as to why she wasn't allowed to join the game on the court! She loves pointing to her reflection in the ShwishShwishShwee ornaments. 🎄 Ruby also got to hang out in a pink tent with her best friend who we love so much and can't wait to see again soon! 👯‍♀️

Ruby Tuesday - We are so looking forward to Christmas. Ruby loves pointing out all the "Swishmush Shwee" (Christmas Tree) lights around town and she loved decorating the tree with her classmates. Ruby visited her mom at school and immediately got on the floor of the cheerleading room and started rolling around showing us all her "tricks." She finally wore her robe long enough for us to get a photo, but she was not happy about wearing her vest this morning. I am so thankful for my family who are the light of my life every day. Tomorrow is my birthday and I will be singing in a funeral service for my dear friend who I considered my brother. Please pray for me, but especially pray for the families that are going through this unbelievably difficult time.

This week Ruby learned about petting Kevin gently while waiting for her Gram. She ran in a field with Franklin. She went to Mimi's house and played piano and trucks with "Thor." She is so sweet sharing milk with her stuffed dog. Post-bath snuggles and looking at the Christmas tree have been really great. Ruby is also working on her “scowling at bad drivers” face.

Ruby Tuesday - Last Christmas, Ruby couldn't even walk. This year she just decided to help decorate the tree... 😮 Life is good with this school picture crushing, park-swinging, hoodie-wearing, denim jacket rockin, pillow hiding, CUTIE PIE!!! ...and YES we have started putting up Christmas decorations already! We are pumped about Christmas, okay?!? Fight me!

Ruby Tuesday 🎃 This girl absolutely crushed Halloween! She finally wore her Junior Park Ranger costume that her mom got back before we made our baby announcement. (Many of you thought her name was actually going to be "Junior Ranger Adler" 😆) Mom was a wolf and I was supposed to be a bear, but I felt like I looked like a cat, so I put on Hawaiian shirt and grabbed my big camera and changed my costume to a tourist that was getting too close to the animals. Ruby got to carve pumpkins with her cousins and go Trick or Treating with the family! Ruby saw the big kids walking, so she wanted to walk too, and she probably walked a mile!!! Ruby was also a strawberry at her school Halloween party. We are so thankful for these fun times and can't believe how big this 1 year old is getting.

My older brother sent me a text this week mentioning his daughter's next birthday will be her 9th. It dawned on him that in another 9 years she will be off to college... time absolutely flies. So even during the tiring times we are always trying to remember to enjoy every second. This week Ruby visited her mom's classroom and it was CRAZY seeing her sit in one of those big kid desks (did I mention time flies)... playing hide and seek 😆 , and babysitting the cousin's new puppy, and facetiming with the Great Grands, and running, and more running, and snuggles with dad.

Ruby Tuesday - This little girl has been enjoying cooler walks, and sitting in her chair that was literally her Grandad’s chair when he was a kid, waving to Grandad and Gram, she practiced saying “cheese” for school pictures, and snuggling with mom, and wearing sunglasses with dad because her future’s so bright.

Ruby Tuesday - This was a weird week with Erin and I being away from Ruby for a few nights for the first time in her life. We dropped Ruby off together at school and jumped on a plane to NYC for our 5th anniversary. It was amazing and we did so much, but we missed our little kiddo so badly the entire time. We couldn't have done it without our amazing parents that watched Ruby and sent videos and pictures of Ruby having fun, and that would sustain us for a few more hours. Ruby did not like FaceTiming with us as it seemed to confuse her and the only thing she said to us was "Bye Bye." 😳 😄 We are back now and Ruby seemed so happy to play with her NYC taxi with her mom and dad back by her side. We loved the time to reconnect and just be adults, but we agreed that we will have to bring Ruby along next time.
