Orange Hat Film Productions An Independently run Canadian film production company collaborating with artists and like-minds to create high quality films.

Orange Hat Film Productions was founded by Darryl Ayles & Jamara Forbes late in 2013 while attending college in London, ON and officially launched April 26th, 2014. Orange Hat Film Productions Canada is a company built through a collaborative effort, a pool of knowledge, skills, advice, and experience. After graduating from Advanced Filmmaking at Fanshawe College, the members of OHFP were eager to

jump into the film industry and carry out the company vision of making festival quality - low budget, short films and music videos. Off to a good start, Darryl Ayles' second short film "Conscious" screened at the Hamilton Music and Film Festival in October 2014. Following that, OHFP began production on a three-season mini-series released on YouTube entitled Look What You Have Become. Following the mini series, OHFP has completed three feature length films: .44, Vent, and Door Into Darkness, the later of which is planned to release late 2022. Here at Orange Hat we understand the time it takes to develop an idea into something tight enough to take to camera. We all live by the company motto “Collaborate - Capture - Connect”

Look What You Have Become - Season 1 Episode 5

Still one of our most memorable shoots to date. From fight choreography, to kicking a door in half, to more fake drugs than we could have imagined. We had a blast, we stayed up late, and we got it done.

We've always thought of doing another original web series or limited series, maybe we just might have to.

Throwback to the the day we took the train up to Toronto to visit Vistek and buy our Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K 🤘

It feels like a lifetime since then when we think back to just how many projects (shorts, features, music videos, and everything in between) that we've shot since then. Little did we know at this moment, exactly how much this camera upgrade was going to change our trajectory.

There's always been a little voice in the back of our heads telling us to buy a second one...

Nothing feels better than a shoot wrap after a job well done.

This is the final shoot from the short film "Dead Frog" to be featured in the feature film anthology "One Night In Lethargia"

The best part of an anthology series for us so far is all the new connections we've made the past year. It's been a whirlwind of short films and wild nights, but we're so happy to have met everyone we have along the way!

It's not every day I get to shoot 16mm film on a camera almost double my age!

It was a Father's Day treat to have a chance to shoot with an Eclair 16mm camera. This shoot consisted mainly of knocking off the dust on this old beaut, but it was fun nonetheless. Courtesy of our friend

Whether or not the footage is usable, well, that's up to the film gods.

From a film school 48-hour film challenge to our latest feature film, Angelique LeBlanc has been an asset to every production. We knew from that we were destined to work together again from that very first project.
She played the roles of Samantha in .44 as well as Sarah in T.A.S.

A sneak peek behind the scenes at another segment of the feature film "One Night In Lethargia," a collection of short stories told by unlikely drinking companion.

Tad Belan was both director and lead actor of the segment of the story he brought to the project. Pete Comrie poker participant, and Darryl Ayles lining up the shot of Tad on the opposite side of the table. This and the majority of Lethargia was shot on the Blackmagic Design Magic pocket cinema camera 4K with both Meike Global and an array of vintage lenses.

It was a treat last month to have a project that brought us back to the remnants of the old Fox & Fiddle bar in City Plaza.

Last time we were there was for a short scene in .44 and before that it was our Advanced Filmmaking First Take film festival reception.
This building feels very iconic to London's downtown past life. So much has changed from those few years ago it was a comforting feeling to see that not much had changed in here since our last visit. This building holds a place in our heart, we're so grateful that we were able to get access to the space for this introspective moment in a booth with none other than David Parisian

These are some behind the scenes shots of a segment of the feature film "One Night In Lethargia," an anthology feature film that is nearing the final few shoot days after over a year in production. When so many great minds come together we can't rush the process.

This shoot back in February took place at a fantastic and malleable space that was easy to adapt and provided the perfect blank slate we needed to execute Mason's vision.

This feature film is still in production and we're patiently awaiting the day we'll get to see it all come together. What we've seen so far has left us wanting more to say the least.

6 Years ago today we were deep in principal photography for .44

Has it really been that long?
44 was one of those productions where we had the chance to include longtime friends in almost every role. Over the years it's been a pleasure having the chance to work with each and every one of you and we're excited to have the opportunity to both bring back familiar faces and build new relationships with our upcoming projects.

A BIG thank you to everyone who took the time to give this film a watch while it was available on YouTube. We are so grateful to those who gave us feedback and shared it with others. Your views and feedback mean the world to us.

It was a two year process from the first draft of the script (September 22, 2021) to our Hyland Cinema premiere (September 2, 2023). We are so glad to have had the opportunity to share this film with all of you, both in theatre and online. We are looking forward to our upcoming Hyland premieres and getting started on the next films in the pipeline.

It was so nice to meet so many fresh faces at the industry mixer last night! We both had an overwhelming sense of warmth and community. Nights like those where the London film industry comes together really help you to visualize the bigger picture, together we’re all part of something greater and it’s only a matter of time before big things start happening for every one of us.

We can’t wait to follow up with the connections we made last night and expand our network through our future projects.

It was such a busy night we forgot to snap any photos so here’s a photo of us from an event held a few months ago for Raising The Bar the upcoming series from Ziler TV Productions

Our Story

Orange Hat Film Productions was founded by Darryl Ayles late in 2013 while attending college in London, ON and officially launched April 26th, 2014. Orange Hat Film Productions Canada is a company built through a collaborative effort, a pool of knowledge, skills, advice, and experience. As Fanshawe alumni, the members of OHFP were eager to jump into the film industry and carry out the company vision of making festival quality - low budget, short films and music videos. Darryl Ayles' second short film "Conscious" screened at the Hamilton Music and Film Festival in October 2014. After production and release of a three-season mini-series entitled Look What You Have Become, they are currently in production on their first independent feature film to be released Summer 2019. Currently enlisted as part of our collective are many aspiring filmmakers, writers, artists, and budding talent. For each film the company works in various positions, depending on the content we shoot with individual strengths in mind. Here at Orange Hat, we are full service filmmakers focusing on all aspects of production: pre-production, production, post-production, and distribution. We understand it takes time to develop an idea into something tight enough to take to camera. We all live by the company motto “Collaborate - Capture - Connect”
