The Mass Communications Club at MIU prepares and equips students for careers as journalists or public relations professionals.
The objectives that the MIU Mass comm Club has set for itself are directly taken from the 9 core values and competencies that the Club has identified. They are:
- Understanding and application of the principles and laws of freedom of speech and press;
- Understanding of the history and role of professionals and institutions in shaping communication;
- Understanding of the diversity of groups
in a global society in relationship to communication;
- To develop amongst members an understanding of importance of communication
- To develop among members an understanding of the effects of mass media on
themselves as individuals and also upon society
- To develop skills to deconstruct media messages by making them understand the
constructed nature of media
- To develop skills to encourage the production of creative media messages.
- To encourage members to express their feelings and thoughts through media
messages they produce
- To introduce members to various career opportunities in mass media.
