One of my personal top 5 favorite episodes I've done. #docholliday
Happy Birthday John Dillinger.
June 22, 1903 – July 22, 1934 -
He was an American gangster active during the Great Depression. He operated with a group of men which were accused of robbing 24 banks and four police stations, among other crimes, during a 15 month span. While he robbed banks, he would never rob any of the customers in the bank. He didn't want to take money from the working man.
He was also the first criminal to be transported by plane. When the plane landed near Chicago, it was immediately surrounded by thousands of onlookers who wanted to see the man who was more famous than any Hollywood star. He was then escorted by over 100 cops to Crown Point Jail, because they were scared he was going to escape. Even though the jail hired extra security and 50 National Guard were posted outside the jail, he still escaped, using a wooden gun. Then he stole the sheriff's car to make his getaway. While he did take two hostages with him, he dropped them off over the Illinois border. Then he gave them all the money he had in his pocket so they could call a taxi to get back home because he felt bad for their inconvenience. He was a criminal to some and a folk hero to others. Either way, his legend still lives on.
In November I'm finally going to revisit John Dillinger. Except this time, it's going to be exploring the details of his death and the rumors that he lived. #dillinger #mysteriouscircumstances
