For the past year I have been experimenting with “Artificial Intelligence” imaging software. Here is my first “real-world” application of this tech: I used 7 aerial photos from high above East Helena which clearly show the massive and ugly slag pile from the many years of smelting lead at ASARCO. My project shows the same aerial views but with the slag removed and the ranch and farmland restored to what it might have been before the slag pile. See it here: www.pricklypearjunction.com

Looking across Wylie Drive from the end of Main Street. This is the construction site for a new 26,000-square-foot Town Pump that includes a 22,500–square-foot convenience store and 3,500-square-foot Lucky Lil’s Casino. Town Pump will include 11 fuel pumps with 22 fueling stations and 4 RV dumps. Completion is scheduled for March/April 2024. The $14.4 million project at Wylie Drive and Highway 12 will be one of the chain’s largest stores. Yes, our little town is growing up.

For Veterans Day, 2023
Honoring 4 unknown soldiers at the old cemetery in East Helena. I have asked many people over the years about this monument and nobody so far has definitive knowledge of what war or year they came from. I have been told maybe as early as the “Indian” wars or the “Civil War”. Doesn’t really matter I suppose: these four represent all soldiers lost in conflict.

Come down to #5 Lane Ave.,East Helena this year on September 9th, from 10-3, for a Kids Carnival, Beer Garden, Food, Giveaways and so much more fun! This years participating business are: J4 Automotive, Valley Bank of Helena, Drae's Casino, Heritage Food Store, Duke's Tree Service, and Vigilante Pizza. Construction Notice Asphalt Paving: Valley Drive

Gravel and Asphalt installation is scheduled to start on August 14th.

Gravel Installation (8/14/2023-8/16/2023):
The final lift of gravel will be installed Monday through Wednesday. This means there will be NO access on Valley Drive. The road will be barricaded off. All vehicles must use Plant Road and connecting side streets.

Asphalt Paving (8/16/2023-8/18/2023):
Asphalt installation will be on start Wednesday and finish by Friday. This means there will be NO access on Valley Drive during the placement of asphalt until it cools off. Wednesday crews will pave tie ins and some driveway approaches. Thursday crews will pave Valley Drive. Friday crews will finish paving Valley Drive, driveway approaches, side streets and anything remaining. Please plan to move any vehicles to the closest side streets. (Examples: trailers, cars, campers, boats, recreational vehicles). The road will be paved with two 2-inch lifts of asphalt. Valley Drive will be completely blocked off during this time so everyone must use plant road and the connecting side streets.

There will be an increased number of large trucks and equipment during this time. For the safety of the public and construction crews, we ask that everyone please continue to follow the posted traffic control.

Because East Helena's original name was Prickly Pear Junction, I placed the car into a field of flowering prickly pear cactus plants. Looks pretty good I think. Yes or no? Your call. AARP Montana donated this fitness park along with free classes all summer long!
Free outdoor fitness classes are available in East Helena all summer long!

AARP donated the fitness park adjacent to the playground in Kennedy Park. It is an installation of several all-weather athletic stations that effectively create an exercise circuit for anyone looking for an exercise session.

The FitLot park is for all ages and is part of a larger national initiative in honor of AARP’s 60th anniversary in 2020. There is at least one AARP FitLot park in all 50 states.

Looking across Wylie Drive from the end of Main Street. 2023 ~ MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR ~ 2024

WHAT A MESS! This is NOT Montana Ave./Valley Drive but on any weekday at 8:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m., it feels like this. After Prickly Pear Elementary School opened on Valley Drive I asked East Helena City Hall when the road might be improved to accommodate so much extra traffic. I was told that some company was working on plans to do so. The next year after East Helena High School opened, also on Valley Drive, I asked City Hall again and was told that some company was working on plans to improve the road. The next year, after work began on the more than 300 home Highland Meadows subdivision, also on Valley Drive, I again asked City Hall and was told some company was working on plans to improve Montana Ave./Valley Drive. Never have I been told which company so cannot find a time frame. Maybe some else needs to ask. Please feel free: East Helena City Hall (406) 227-5321
