Bill C-355 received the green light in the House of Commons today! 181 Members of Parliament voted for this protective bill to proceed to the Agriculture Committee for consideration. (Nay votes totalled 137) The horses have scored a victory!

When natural disasters strike, the media often pays attention to the rescue of companion animals, the dogs and cats so many of us hold dear, advocates for other animals are asking that the plight of wild and farmed animals be considered too.

Naturally, the focus is people when it comes to the suffering inflicted by the recent wildfires in Canada and Hawaii. But there are other victims—from pets to wildlife to farmed animals. Sadly, the latter aren’t given much thought. Do we need to widen our circle of compassion?
