: Amid the ongoing controversy over using 'Bharat' instead of 'India', legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan's latest tweet has caught the eyeballs of all the fans.

On Tuesday, taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Amitabh wrote in Hindi, "Bharat Mata Ki Jai.'

As his tweet came during the India-Bharat row, it seems like Big B has just showcased his support in favour of India's name change.

SC reserves its verdict on pleas on Art 370

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a batch of pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution which bestowed special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.

A five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud reserved the verdict after a marathon 16-day hearing. The bench, also comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and Surya Kant, heard the rejoinder arguments of senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Gopal Subramanium, Rajeev Dhavan, Zaffar Shah, Dushyant Dave and others on the concluding day of the hearing.

The top court said if any lawyer appearing for the petitioners or respondents wishes to file a written submission can do so in the next three days. The submission should not extend beyond two pages, it said.

In the course of the hearing over the past 16 days, the top court heard Attorney General R Venkataramani, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, senior advocates Harish Salve, Rakesh Dwivedi, V Giri and others on behalf of the Centre and the intervenors defending the abrogation of Article 370.

India Covid: 5,676 a day, 35,093 fresh cases

NEW DELHI: India recorded 5,676 new coronavirus infections, while the active cases increased to 37,093, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Tuesday.

The death toll has increased to 5,31,000 with 21 deaths. While three deaths each were reported from Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan, two were recorded in Karnataka and one each in Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu besides six reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.47 crore (4,47,68,172) The active cases now comprise 0.08 per cent of the total infections and the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.73 per cent, the ministry said.

Jammu, July 30 (GNS): Body of wife of a Sub Inspector of Railway Police Force was found, five days after she along with her husband and their two children died after a car they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into river Chenab along the Jammu-Srinagar highway in Ramban district. There was no trace of the Sub Inspector of RPF, Rakesh Kumar, and the two children as yet. Official sources told GNS that body of woman, Asha Rani, was recovered at Reasi. On July 26, Kumar lost control over the vehicle he was driving with wife and their two children onboard and the car skidded off the road, plunging into the fast flowing river at Mehar, a place between Ramban -Banihal.
