Hi, I’m Sara Eloise.

I’ve had the privilege of working as a Senior UX Designer for many years, and along the way, I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition for my work, including the Design Thinking Champion award from Design Innovation Global. But more important than the titles or awards is the opportunity to collaborate with talented people and create designs that genuinely make a difference in people’s lives.

My passion lies in helping others solve complex problems through thoughtful, user-centered design and facilitating spaces where every voice is heard. Whether it’s working with a team, leading a workshop, or mentoring others, my goal is always to foster collaboration, creativity, and meaningful solutions. It’s a journey I feel lucky to be on, and I’m grateful for every project, team, and client that’s helped shape who I am today.

Feel free to send me a DM if you want to chat!

Reflecting on my journey in the design industry, I realize how much has changed over the years. Back in the day, my creative process revolved around my own ideas and inspirations. I would immerse myself in a world of aesthetics, drawing upon vibrant images and the brand colors of my clients to craft designs that I thought were visually appealing. However, I now understand that this approach, while creative, often missed the mark when it came to truly resonating with the end-users.

The evolution of UX design has been a game-changer. It has taught us that effective design is not just about looking good; it's about understanding the needs and behaviors of the people who will interact with our work. User research and testing have become integral parts of the design process, allowing us to create experiences that are not only beautiful but also functional and user-friendly. This shift has encouraged us to step away from our creative bubbles and engage directly with users, gaining invaluable insights that inform our designs.

What have you learned from your experiences in design? Let's share our journeys and inspire each other to keep evolving. 💡✨

Create a post about Define stage in design thinking and its methods
Today, let’s dive deeper into the Define stage of the design thinking process! 🌟 This phase is where we take all the insights gathered during the Empathize stage and distill them into a clear, actionable problem statement. It’s such a critical step because it sets the foundation for what we’re going to create next. Instead of jumping straight into solutions, we pause and reflect on the core challenges our users are facing. This is where the magic begins! ✨

During the Define stage, several methods can help us clarify our thoughts and focus our efforts. One popular technique is creating User Personas. These fictional characters represent our target audience and help us humanize the data we collected. Another useful method is Affinity Diagramming, where we group related ideas and insights to find patterns and themes. This helps us visualize the user's needs more clearly. 🧩

We can also use the How Might We questions to reframe our insights into opportunities for innovation. By asking open-ended questions, we can explore numerous possibilities and spark creativity. Remember, the goal is to ensure that what we define is not just a problem, but a pathway to impactful solutions! 💡

Have you tried any of these methods in your projects? I would love to hear your experiences or any tips you have! Let’s keep the conversation going in the comments below! 💬

1:1 interviews are a critical tool in the Discover phase of Design Thinking. They provide deep insights into users’ needs, motivations, and pain points, allowing designers to truly empathize with their experiences. Through these interviews, we can uncover hidden challenges and perspectives that may not surface in group settings. The goal is to ask open-ended questions, listen actively, and observe the user’s emotional responses. By connecting on a personal level, we build a foundation for designing solutions that are not only functional but also meaningful to the people we’re designing for.

Exciting update! You may have noticed that I’ve rebranded this page to reach a broader audience. Eloise Lab is now about more than just design—it’s about innovation and creating remarkable experiences.

I’m currently working on my first course, which explores design thinking using Gen AI tools. But that’s just the beginning! I’ll also be sharing insights on design sprints, play thinking, workshopping, and experience metrics.

Many people think design is just about color, branding, and visuals, but that’s only the surface. While UI is important, UX is equally (if not more) critical. As designers, we need to understand both to approach projects holistically.

Join the waitlist for my Innovation Masterclass and be the first to learn the 5 steps of my secret framework for driving innovation. Comment “Toolkit” below to sign up and receive a free toolkit straight to your inbox!

This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to be in London with the London Academy, where we visited an amazing place called the Barbican Museum. It was a perfect example that user experience is everywhere—it’s not just tech-specific. The way we interact with spaces, navigate buildings, and connect with environments all contribute to the user journey. Architects and city planners have been addressing these touchpoints for years, creating designs that enhance lives. Some had it figured out long ago, and we continue to build on that legacy today.

Discovery in Design Thinking 🧠💭

The first and most crucial phase of design thinking is Discovery, where empathy takes center stage. Empathy is the foundation of design thinking—it’s the driving force that allows designers to truly understand the needs, desires, and challenges of the people they are creating for. By immersing themselves in the users’ world, designers can gather deep insights that inform every step of the process. This phase isn’t just about collecting data; it’s about connecting with real human experiences. The more a team can empathize, the better they can define the problem, generate meaningful ideas, and develop solutions that genuinely resonate with users. In Discovery, empathy isn’t just a step; it’s the heartbeat of innovation, setting the stage for impactful and user-centered design.

🔍 Methods to Discover:

• User Interviews
• Observation & Shadowing
• Surveys & Questionnaires
• Empathy Mapping
• Journey Mapping
• Contextual Inquiry

💡 Want to dive deeper? Learn these methods and more in my upcoming masterclass Design Thinking Innovations with Gen AI tools.

The Cisco U. homepage is more than just a project—it’s a testament to what can be achieved when talented professionals come together with a shared vision. From the initial collaboration with Blink X to the final touches on the high-fidelity wireframes, every step of the process was a team effort. I’m honored to have been a part of it and to have contributed to a homepage that is not only high-visibility and high-traffic but also highly effective in converting visitors into customers.

This project is a reminder of the power of collaboration and the importance of a user-focused approach in design. I look forward to continuing to create impactful designs that drive success for our products and our users.

I'm proud to hear and see the metrics that show our homepage is landing and converting clients for our product. Knowing that I’ve played a part in helping our team reach its goals and drive success for Cisco U. is incredibly rewarding.

Meet my peer Kathleen!

I want to take a moment to highlight the incredible growth and contributions of my peer, Kathleen. Over the past two years, she has been instrumental in our "Persona by Role" project, helping to shape meaningful insights. I had the pleasure of mentoring her for six months, during which she mastered facilitation skills and design thinking. Today, Kathleen is one of the outstanding facilitators on our team, and I couldn’t be more proud of her journey and accomplishments!

If you want to learn the same facilitation process and gain powerful skills, join my upcoming Masterclass with Gen AI.🤖

It was such a great experience running "The Breaks" Design Thinking Workshop at Raleigh Union Station!

We started by sharing lucky breaks stories, followed by finding moments where we had to put in the breaks, brainstormed barriers that where holding us back and finalized by exploring breakthroughs.

I was honored to share some words of inspiration to my fellow UX Designers: "Whether you're designing a website, an App, or any other user interface, you're not just shaping pixels and code; you're shaping lives. You have the power to make a difference, to touch peoples hearts, and to create a world where people truly love the products and experiences you bring to life. I believe that in this world we need more designers to change the world with our empathy, creativity, and the incredible impact of user experience design!"

Our Story

I love to see change and how technology transforms the way we work, live and play. In the last 10 years of experience in the New Media field I've seen a lot of these transformations and it will continue to change us.

I am passionate about utilizing technology for connecting people, learning, education and making our lives more exciting. With globalization there is no way back and the better we design processes and products, the more thought we put into them, applying human centered design, we will effectively find ways to live our lives.

Throughout my career I won the Best Portfolio Award at the Art Institute. I have managed the creative direction for web design projects, IOS Native Applications, worked for fortune 500 companies where I have expanded my experience in project management, user centric design and marketing.

I would love to share my experience as a women in the industry of technology.
