January 5 | Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord

The word “Epiphany” means “manifestation.” Therefore, as we honor this moment in time when the Christ Child was made manifest to the world, we need to look into our own hearts. There, we discover Christ’s ongoing manifestation to us so that we can worship Him Who has also chosen to be born within our hearts. We must diligently seek out that manifestation of God within us and respond to it in the same ways that the Magi responded.

The Epiphany reminds us that God manifests Himself in unexpected ways, inviting us to seek Him diligently. Just as the Magi followed the star, we must seek signs of divine guidance in our lives. Christ's birth within our hearts invites us to introspection, worship, and devotion. Through Epiphany's celebration, may we renew our commitment to follow God's manifestations in our lives.

January 3 | Most Holy Name of Jesus

The Church reveals to us the wonders of the Incarnate Word by singing the glories of His name. The name of Jesus means Savior; it had been shown in a dream to Joseph together with its meaning and to Our Lady at the annunciation by the Archangel Gabriel. The name "Jesus," meaning "God saves," reflects the mission of Christ to bring salvation to humanity. This feast highlights the significance of invoking and revering the Holy Name of Jesus in prayer, reflecting the power and grace it carries in Christian spirituality.

The name of Jesus is a name of gladness, a name of hope and a name of love. A name of gladness, because if the remembrance of past transgressions afflicts us, this name comforts us, reminding us that the Son of God became man for this purpose, to make himself our Savior.
A name of hope, because he that prays to the Eternal Father in the name of Jesus may hope for every grace he asks for: If you ask the Father anything in My name, He will give it you.
A name of love. For the name of Jesus brings to our remembrance all the sufferings which Jesus has endured for us in his life and at his death.

O, Most Holy Name of Jesus, heal the world!

January 1 | Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God

The Church celebrates the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. She is honored because she was conceived of the Holy Spirit and gave birth to Christ, who is the only begotten son. As we celebrate the solemnity of Mary, we are not just honoring the woman who's chosen to give birth to our beloved Jesus Christ but also honoring her only begotten son. Blessed Virgin Mary to be the Mother of God for a simple, logical reason: By the power of the Holy Spirit, she conceived Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

In regard to Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary supplied his humanity and is thus the Mother of Jesus. But Christ has both a human nature and a divine nature. Nevertheless, she gave birth to the one person who is Jesus Christ, the Son of God-made man. She is rightly called the Mother of God- theotokos even though she herself is not the source of his divinity. (Cf. CCC 496) Mother of God is the highest honor we can give to Mary. Similar to Christmas, we honor Jesus as the Prince of Peace. Mary is the Queen of Peace.

As we move forward this year, may we remember how Mary accepted and became strong to face her challenges for her only begotten son, Jesus Christ. In this New Year, we should seek our mercy, protection, blessing, monitoring, favor, and giving peace for our Lord Jesus Christ. May everyone be strong enough to face the upcoming challenges in their lives in this new year just like Mary, and may we be guided by our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

"The joy of Christmas is multiplied when shared with those we call family." Christmas is a season that reminds us of what truly matters—cherished moments with family and God, the joy of being together, and the love that warms our hearts.

Last December 21, the Senior High School department celebrated Family Day in a wonderful gathering that brought students, teachers, and their loved ones together. Everyone, including the children and guardians, came together to enjoy a variety of activities, from different games to performances.

The highlight of the day was the beautiful performances prepared by the whole Senior High School Department, which featured a musical performance, songs, and dances that captured the essence of the birth of Jesus.

As we celebrate, we are reminded that every photo captured is a memory to cherish. The Family Day serves as a reminder that when we come together to celebrate the birth of the Lord, we strengthen our bonds and create lasting memories that we carry with us always.

December 29 | Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph

This feast day honors Jesus, the Blessed Mother, and St. Joseph as the holiest of families, and therefore a model for all Christian families. They were holy because they placed God at the center of their family life, they loved and sacrificed for one another, and they radiated that love to others in the redemptive mission of the Word Incarnate.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph is truly a model of love and faithfulness. Mary was chosen by God to be the mother of Jesus. Joseph took care of Jesus and Mary with love and care. Jesus, as the Son of God, show kindness and love to everyone.

The Holy Family shows us how to live with love, trust and faith. Mary is teaching us to trust God. Joseph is showing us how to care for others. Jesus teaches us how to love and serve others with kindness. The Holy Family reminds us that we can find the true peace and happiness in following God's plan. They show us that love is what makes a family strong and closer together. Holy Family is a model for all of us. Holy Family of Nazareth, protect our families. Keep us united in love and lead us to eternal joy!

Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us!

December 25 | SOLEMNITY OF THE NATIVITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST

Today, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Nativity the Lord, the Birth of Jesus Christ, and the First Day in the Octave of Christmas. Throughout Advent, the Church longed ardently for the coming of our Savior, and now, she celebrates His birth with unrestrained joy. "The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us." The Son of God became man to give us a share in that divine life which is eternally His in the Blessed Trinity. God has extended his mercy toward us by coming to earth in the flesh to show us the way to Heaven. “In the fullness of time, chosen in the unfathomable depths of God’s wisdom, the Son of God took for himself our common humanity in order to reconcile it with its creator” (cf. St. Leo the Great, Liturgy of the Hours, Office of Readings, Christmas, p. 405).

The birth of Jesus in a manger teaches us that in a world focused on wealth and status, Christ's arrival among the lowly shepherds reminds us that true greatness is found in service and love. As we celebrate Christmas, let us open our hearts to the marginalized and extend compassion to all, embodying the selfless love that Jesus demonstrates. As Monicans, let us not only feel the essence of Christmas but also share the Christmas spirit to our fellow Christians.

Have a blessed Christmas!

December 22 | The Fourth Sunday of Advent, Candle of Love

The fourth week of advent is love. According to this scripture, God loves us so much that he wants no one to lose out on spending eternity (forever) with him, which is why Jesus came into the world. Simply believing that Jesus is the Son of God and that he came to earth to redeem us from sin is all that is required. One of the primary topics that the apostle John wrote about in the Bible was God's love for us. In another verse (John 15:13), he informs us that the greatest love anyone can have is to sacrifice their lives for others. Additionally, Jesus teaches us that since God is the source of love, we should love one another (I John 4:7).).

December 16 | NATIONAL YOUTH DAY

The NATIONAL YOUTH DAY (NYD) is an event where the Philippine Church expresses, in every concrete way her great love for the young. It is an occasion offered for young people to celebrate and deepen their faith, and a special moment of coming together as one body, united in a journey towards intimacy with Christ.

The NYD is celebrated annually in the dioceses and organizations on the 16th of December or on any day near it. Yearly, the ECY prepares the NYD conceptual plan, to suit the local context, depends largely on the creativity and possibilities of each diocese or organization.

THE NYD is also celebrated biennially through a national gathering. It is usually on a date near December 16, and lasts for three days. When celebrated this way, the local host of the celebration assists the ECY in the planning and ex*****on of the NYD Events. NYD activities are centered on the theme offered by the Holy Father for the yearly celebration of the World Youth Day (WYD).

In 1986, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), as a way of concretizing its preferential love for the youth, approved the annual celebration of the NYD every December 16, the first day of the Misa de Gallo or Simbang Gabi. The first NYD celebration was in 16 December 1986.
From 1987, NYD celebrations at the national level were held in Manila. From 1991 to 1997, the NYD was celebrated locally in the different parishes and dioceses.

The next national celebration of the National Youth Day (NYD), hosted by the Archdiocese of Caceres, will be held in July 2025 — just as we celebrate the Jubilee of Hope with the theme: “Young pilgrims of hope, come to the pilgrim city.”

Youth symbolizes strength, creativity, and the courage to dream big. Their energy can spark revolutions and drive innovation. Yet, this power must be nurtured with guidance, education, and values. As one family, let us rejoice and celebrate the significance of youth in our community and the church. Let us continue to be the light of the world and hope for a brighter future that the world needs.
