•Commitment To Improving Literacy ✨

The Rotary Club’s commitment to improving literacy is an inspiring reminder that we can all make a difference.

Reading success at a young age is a surprisingly strong indicator of life outcomes. Many studies have shown that a student’s ability to read on grade level by the end of third grade is an important predictor of high school graduation and career success.

Thanks to the success of the Read United partnership, clubs in Houston County and throughout Middle and Southeast Georgia have taken on many other literacy initiatives in recent years. These include summer reading programs, little “libraries” in parks for people to take and leave books for free, handing out books to new mothers in hospitals, and even placing book vending machines in schools.

• 40 Years Of Sisterhood ✨

Mary Ann Branch Coskery is a founding member of Kappa Alpha Zeta, an organization created to help students with direction and those in need of structure.

In the fall of 1983, Mary Ann Branch, now Mary Ann Branch Coskery, returned home from Troy University. Upon her return to Warner Robins, she found her younger sister and friends in high school to be struggling to find direction and in need of structure.
Thriving as a member of Alpha Delta Pi, Mary Ann knew the positive impact Greek life can have on college students. She thought it could be the same for her sister and other high school students. Kim Branch Adkison, Shannon Bianco Byrd, Katherine Moody Bohler, and Kellie Coxsey Cox agreed and became the Founding Sisters. And thus, Kappa Alpha Zeta was born.

Friends Of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS)✨

There is no limit to the amount of joy a pet brings to its family. But for rescue animals, it takes a lot of moving parts to get from the streets to a loving home. Friends of Perry Animal Shelter is here for helpless animals that cannot help themselves.
Adoption Volunteer Manager Lynne Gibbs talks about the history of FOPAS in Houston County with great pride. "FOPAS was founded in 2004 by Davis Cosey," she says. "It was originally started as more of a fundraiser to raise money to help the animal shelter here in our town."

*FOPAS is only operable because of the generosity of volunteers and donors. They are entirely grateful for the opportunity to provide animals in need with a second chancel at happiness and will continue to connect pets to their forever homes as long as they are able.
