Signal boosting this demo for all Londoners, especially East Londoners. No more racist, environmentally disastrous projects for the benefit of the few and the detriment of the many!

Stop the Silvertown Tunnel! Climate Justice Now

Join us at the Q***r & Feminist block at the mass demo organised by the Stop the Silvertown Tunnel coalition on Saturday the 26 February at 2pm.

Meeting point City Hall, City Hall, Crystal Building, London E16 1ZE
It will be a family-friendly day followed by a rally and street theatre.

The £2.2bn Silvertown Tunnel is the biggest road project in London and the country, and will lock is fossil fuel use, and high levels of pollution in some of the country’s most diverse and deprived communities, for decades to come. We need to act urgently to stop this climate disaster. TfL expects to launch the Tunnel Boring Machine in the next few months.

TfL is planning the new four-lane road tunnel, just east of the Blackwall Tunnel. It would flood the Greenwich peninsula and Newham with more traffic. The Silvertown Tunnel has no support from local residents. If it goes ahead it would worsen air pollution in Newham, already one of the UK’s most polluted boroughs. TfL is planning the tunnel while cutting public transport projects and the Healthy Streets project. The tunnel offers no benefits for local residents - Black and Asian communities, working-class people - only potentially deadly pollution. This is environmental racism.

The local communities of Milas and Yatağan in Muğla province of Turkey, have been living under the destructive impacts of Yeniköy, Kemerköy and Yatağan coal-fired power plants and coal mines for four decades. Now the last natural area, Akbelen Forest, with its trees, bushes, birds, thyme and mushrooms, is under the threat of an expanding open-pit lignite mine. Solidarity with the locals fighting back!

On Thursday May 20, İkizköy, one of the villages under threat of coal mining expansion in Turkey’s Muğla region took action to protect the Akbelen Forest, a carbon sink of rich biodiversity. It is after all one thing to say quitting coal would be really nice, and it is another thing to demand i...

This is a Public Service Announcement.

At the 'official' Kill The Bill demonstration on Saturday, we saw swarms of SWP (Socialist Workers Party) propaganda. It is clear that they are using the Kill The Bill campaign to recruit new members for their vile organisation, and trying to cleanse their name by associating it with a movement that is committed to ending violence against women.

Let's make it clear. The SWP is a party that is systematically violent towards women, and they have no place in any movement that aims to end this violence and the patriarchal society it relies upon. It is obvious that many of those newly involved in the movement are unaware of the SWP, and how they pose a threat to individuals and are part of the institutionalised sexism that Kill The Bill is organising against.

In 2013 a female member of the SWP spoke out about being r***d by a male member of their central committee, known as “Comrade Delta”. Predictably the SWP hierarchy rallied behind their man and after an internal investigation, found him “cleared”. As more rank and file SWP women came forward and bravely spoke about sexual harassment and r**e at the hands powerful male members, the Party held firm, and hundreds of members left disgusted at the use of SWP hierarchy to intimidate and silence the testimony of survivors.

Rightly these r**e apologists have been widely denounced and excluded from the left. So they began relying on fronts (Stand Up To Racism being a notable example) and the passage of years to recruit new members. We have not forgotten, and whether someone has picked up their mass-produced placards or are paid-up members, we must speak on the harm the SWP has inflicted and refuses to acknowledge. These parasitic sexists are a threat to the movement and have no place within our struggle, where the safety of women must be paramount.

“Never seen anything like it. We were charged at down the street by multiple charging horses and police with dogs. Continuous beatings from the cops, extreme violence. They were literally punching peaceful people who were sitting down, with shields and trampling them. Spoke to someone who saw a woman on the floorget her jacket ripped off her and her hair pulled while coppers laughed and shoved her, they told her to run away while laughing.”

Action Report:

Banner drop on the roof of the currently squatted Cavendish Road Police Station in solidarity with Spanish anarchist Ruymán Rodríguez, who in the next days is facing trial and will probably be sent to prison as a cover up for the brutal violence he suffered from cops as punishment for daring to house the poor by squatting empty buildings. And so we though it was appropriate to hang the banner on a squatted cop shop. We send all our solidarity with Ruymán, the Federación Anarquistas Gran Canaria and everyone suffering police and state violence in Spain and all around the world. ! !

This action was taken by GAF London: The London Green Anti-Capitalist Front in collaboration with the squatters of the police station and in solidarity with the Day of Action by Resist Anti-Trespass.
