My name is Vernon Andrew Magsino Reyes, a singer-songwriter from San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. I have had the honor of composing several iconic songs for our municipal and provincial government. Currently, I reside in Metro Manila, where I am pursuing my career in music and multimedia arts.

I am reaching out to offer my services for composing and recording political jingles for the upcoming 2025 elections. While you may already have a composer or singer in mind, I humbly propose my services at a competitive rate due to my current medical and financial circumstances. As a freelancer with a limited client base, my recent health challenges have necessitated a break from work, further impacting my situation.

Rather than seeking monetary assistance, I am requesting an opportunity to contribute my skills by creating campaign jingles. Additionally, any referrals to anyone you know in a political party or to other candidates that may need campaign jingles would be greatly appreciated. What is our stand on copyright?

Instead of being technical, let's be logical about this.

To create a song, there are a few steps:

The songwriter's side:
- Write the lyrics
- Write the melody
- Produce the sample backing track
- Scrutinize each track and see if volume levels are okay, reverbs properly adjusted

Then, on the studio/producer's side:
- Finalize the lyrics
- Hire an audio engineer
- Hire a band or a musical arranger
- For major labels, hire P.R. people to help promote the song
- Spend countless hours recording the song to be ready for distribution
- Pay for distribution labels
- Pay for copyrighting the song
- Hire a singer for the demo
- Have a mainstream singer to sing the song, which again, involves time in the studio
- If not owned, rent the studio (which can be expensive)
- If owned, pay for electricity and staff (audio engineers, producers, cleaning and maintenance, etc.)
- Set a budget for the music video (if applicable)
- Go on promotional tours

So now that we have a break down of the process, imagine if you are the producer and distributor of a song, then one day, someone comes along and modifies the song, recidrs it in some cheap software, cheap equipment, makes it sound far different from the masterpiece that you've written, and then publishes it without your permission.

Tell me, wouldn't that p**s you off?

And to those who are getting angry because it was just a cover/parody, do you have any idea about the law? Have you heard of mechanical licenses? Of course not! You rant on social media, and become a keyboard warrior, but you can't take the time to research before you say something.

This is not an opinion. This is a fact. Lenka's "Trouble Is A Friend" was STOLEN.

And please search about "Giving credit is not enough to evade copyright." before stating your opinion. They need to have the license to distribute a copyrighted work.

Oh, and by the way, the: "Your song became famous because of this." is not a valid argument. A copyrighted work, is a copyrighted work. Using copyrighted work without a license is STEALING. Stealing is a CRIME. And a crime is PUNISHABLE BY LAW.

They should have done their due diligence in the first place, but they thought they can get away with it. And to those who are bashing the "whistle blower"? Why? The person who told Lenka wasn't even key. Lenka already knew what was going on before the "tattler" commented on the post.

This is true, especially now that social media is filled with so-called experts and keyboard warriors who just sound intelligent but are unintelligible. Soon, satire will not be accepted as a form of comedy, and we will no longer be able to laugh without feeling guilty if we just laughed at the expense of other when in reality, a joke is a joke.

The problem with this society now, especially the entitled, woke, or whatever they want to call themselves, is that they take jokes seriously, but they take serious matters lightly making memes and jokes out of it.

Let's just hope that the future of this world does not fall into hands of ignorant hands. The scariest type of people are those who speak loudly and react blindly, but never think first nor check facts.

To our dear family, friends, and colleagues, we'd like you to know that we will be having a short program at our residence in Teacher's Village, Labangan Poblacion on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 8:00 pm in commemoration of the life of Marichu Gabriel-Castro.

Her internment will be on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the San Jose Municipal Cemetery, San Roque II, San Jose Occidental Mindoro.

We would like to thank everyone for your support and prayers for our family during this time of grief and mourning.
