Why others live YOUR dreams 😳 (and you’re not…)

Truth? Business plans are BS.⚡️

“No, I’m not talking to customers yet. I first want to make a business plan. I hope to have it by October.” Urgh! Like… just NO 🤦🏼‍♀️

Unless you’re asked to write one for pitching your idea to investors or you’re applying for a business loan, don’t waste your time on it.

I get it. Committing to your new business idea is scary. It can feel overwhelming and having a thought-through plan can give a feeling of safety and control.

Sadly though, it’s counterproductive.

To name a few, here are 5 problems I have with business plans:

❌ They create a feeling of doing something while actually you’re not.

❌ A plan without evidence from the market is pure wish thinking.

❌ Your plan will fail 100% of the time. You can’t predict all possible scenarios.

❌ They mostly center around YOU and what YOU do in your business instead of who really matters: Your CUSTOMERS

❌ You try to think of EVERYTHING, instead of the ESSENTIAL parts of your business that you need to get right first: The WHO, WHY, and WHAT of your business.

So here’s what you need to do instead:

✅ Instead of a business plan, describe your business model in 3 sentences:
Who is your ideal customer?
How are you providing value?
How are they paying you for it?

✅ Make a list of all the assumptions and unknowns behind your statement.

✅ Talk to 5 ideal customers and learn if your assumptions were right/wrong.

✅ Make new assumptions based on your learnings and repeat

If you want a business plan that really works, start DOING things.

Your plan will evolve with feedback from the market. Anything else is just dream castles.

It feels crazy…

This morning I was mapping my life story from 0-31 years old as part of a branding exercise. As I was sitting there at my desk with view on the big green tree outside and my favorite scented candle next to my laptop, I was overcome by a feeling of huge gratitude.

“I freaking LOVE what I do! I created this business for myself!”

How absolutely bizarre the feeling of doing what you love to the extent that it doesn’t feel like work.

I grew up being taught that to be successful, you needed a “serious job” and to work hard.

My interests were always on the creative side of things. Singing, dancing, playing the piano, theater, fashion… But I never pursued a creative career because I wanted to be “successful” and I wanted to make good money.

I graduated cm laude from business school and it was only natural that I picked a career in the innovation field - as creative as it gets in corporate. I was ambitious and working hard to build my “successful” leadership career.

But if you succeed at things that don't really matter to you, is it worth the sacrifices you made?

SUCCESS IS BECOMING THE PERSON YOU WANT(!) TO BE.

For you too, there is a reality out there where work is enjoyable. Where you get to be your own boss and work on things that make you burst from joy! Where you are truly successful - not because it looks good on the outside. But because it FEELS good in the inside.

NO SHORT CUTS, LUCK, OR MAGIC FORMULA.💥👇🏼

Back in our corporate leadership careers, our biggest motivation for becoming our own bosses was our deep desire for FREEDOM. Freedom to decide on our own schedule (vs. feeling trapped in meetings!), to work from anywhere in the world, and to do work we love and can’t wait to wake up to!

We were working busy 10 hours work days with commutes, and in the evenings and weekends there was nothing more we wanted to do than relaxing.

But instead, we:

… used our commute to the office working out business ideas and reaching out to clients and brands

… spent our weekends to work on our blog

… attended startup conferences in our spare time for networking

… cancelled festivals and restaurant visits to save money for investing

… learned about how money works and built an investment portfolio

… took courses and attended trainings to work on our money, mindset, & business

When you see others getting ahead in life, it’s easy to say that they were lucky. But the only truth is that they did the work. Even when it was uncomfortable or inconvenient.

It’s simple. If you don’t start taking action today, nothing will be different tomorrow.

Getting your business idea off the ground requires commitment, effort, and time.

If you want to live the future you desire, you need to be ready to put in the work TODAY.

Today because your dreams will never be urgent unless you make them urgent.

LinkedIn asked us for advice. (⏩ SWIPE)

LinkedIn is predicting a wave of “Great Resignation”. The world is beginning to brighten up. As a result, people are thinking of shaking up their careers and trying something new.

Want to leave your job and start a location-independent business?🌴💻

Here’s 3 pieces of advice:

1️⃣ SET A DEADLINE
It's human nature. If there's urgency, we are much more likely to take action. Set a date for quitting your job to make your plans REAL. Even if it feels weird or scary, or you’ll have to move the date, make a first decision. Write it down. Say it out loud. This is no longer a wild dream. It’s a reality you are working towards.

2️⃣ START TALKING TO YOUR IDEAL CLIENTS
No customers => No business. Your SOLE job in the beginning of your business is to figure out who your customers are, what they want & need, and how you can help them achieve the transformation they’re looking for. What you need to do (+ can NEVER circumvent) to find your answers is: Talking to them. If you’re serious about becoming your own boss, start talking to your target audience! (… like NOW!)

3️⃣ TAKE CONTROL OVER YOUR FINANCES
Going through credit card statements is nobody’s favorite thing to do but being in control over your 💸 is EVERYTHING. How serious you take your personal finances will decide whether you will ever make the shift to sustaining your freedom business and lifestyle. How are you managing your money? Do you have full transparency over how much comes in, where it goes, how much stays? Do you have a savings cushion that can catch you? Are you investing your current salary for passive income to build more safety for your life as freedom lifestyle entrepreneur?

If you’re serious about your decision to make a shift from 9-to-5 to Freedom, decide to start these 3️⃣ actions today. Nothing will have changed tomorrow if you don’t make this decision right now.

5 ACTIONS TO KICKSTART YOUR NEW BIZ IDEA. ✨ (… + to start talking to potential customers!) SAVE to remember!📌

Action # 1 - ✅ TARGET PERSONA BULLET POINTS
Write down in 3-5 bullet points what characterizes your ideal customer. Who are they? What do they love / hate? What do they want? Whatever comes to mind is a perfect start.

Action # 2 - 👯‍♀️ MAKE A LIST
List 10 people who fit this description. It can be people you know or people you follow on social media.

Action # 3 - 📝 DRAFT MESSAGE
Draft a message to send to the list of people. The message should include a very quick intro of who you are, what your idea is about (the key benefit to them), why you chose to reach out to THEM, and an ask to free up 30 min of their time to answer your questions! (Comment below if you want a template!)

Action # 4 - 💌 REACH OUT
Send out the message to each of the 10 people individually. This can be on Instagram, Facebook, Email, LinkedIn, WhatsApp. Wherever you can reach them best.

Action # 5 - 🚀 LEARN
Schedule a 30-min call with the ones who agree and ask them about their pain points and needs. Focus on THEM rather than your idea. Try to absorb everything they say like a sponge. Note down all your learnings and ask if they’d be open to a follow up in the future. You will be AMAZED how much clarity and inspiration you will feel after this step!

You can do Steps 1-4 already today.

So there is NO EXCUSE to not take the next step towards your freedom biz!

✨ You can work on your own schedule, anywhere you want.

✨ You can take days (or months!) off without worrying about your income.

✨ If you wanted, you could choose to stop working all together because you have assets and passive income that take care of you.

YOU CAN(!) HAVE IT ALL. - regardless of where you are today (job wise, money wise, degree wise)

But it won’t just happen.

You have to take action to MAKE it happen⚡️.

The action we’re talking about is:

⚡️ Gain clarity about what you would like to do.

⚡️ Get in touch with ideal customers and test your idea.

“Could you have done it without Tomer?”

That’s what asked me yesterday in our podcast interview.

We had been chatting about me leaving my corporate career on the day I got my biggest promotion yet, buying a one-way-ticket to Singapore, and becoming a coach.

Sure, having Tomer by my side was a big benefit. But could I have done it without him? Here’s the truth:

Probably not. At least not in the same way or speed.

It's because when you decide to start a business, quit your job to travel, or commit to any other life changing transformation, YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM IS EVERYTHING.🙌🏼

Doing something you’ve never done can be hard and scary. That’s why you need people around you to share your dreams, to catch you when you need it, and to believe in you when you can’t.

🧡 This safety net can be a friend who shares your aspirations.
🧡 It can be a Facebook community.
🧡 A personal development group.
🧡 Or a coach who is where you want to be.

(By now I have all of the above.)

YOU DON’T NEED TO DO IT ALONE.

Surround yourself with people who can relate, who have done what you want to do, and who creates accountability for you to take action.✨🙌🏼

Still looking for your freedom biz idea?✨ The BIGGEST MISTAKE is to wait until you feel confident.

For the longest time, Tomer and I had been asking ourselves which of our many (seemingly crazy and bold) business ideas we wanted to pursue. We both are BIG dreamers and, over the years, we've had many creative ideas. But as many dreamers, we are dreamers but doubters.🤯 (Maybe you too?)

We tried to think ahead and be very analytical over which idea would have the biggest potential to work. Or which idea we thought made us most excited.

And whatever idea we would zoom in on, there would always be reasons not to commit to it. It was an internal question and answer game that would go on for over 3 years.

We’ve were (over-)thinking without making any progress towards any of our ideas whatsoever!

Then we decided to just do SOMETHING:

We decided to start writing a book. 📖🤷🏼‍♀️

We put our fears and doubts aside (at least for the moment of hitting ‘send’) and wrote emails to travel influencers to interview them for our book. And we did!
Spoiler alert, we didn’t finish the book at the time but it brought us to the next thing. Which brought us to the next thing, and the next! … Which eventually lead us to the business and life we have today.

Most likely, the idea you have now will not be the business you will have in the future BECAUSE YOU WILL LEARN WHAT TO DO EXACTLY BY DOING IT.

Figuring out which of your entrepreneurial ideas you want to commit to requires you to start working on one of them.🙌🏼

Start talking about your ideas to refine and improve them. Start taking action to learn from experience instead of overthinking without any real basis.

The answers you are looking for are on the other side of taking the next best step.

NO VACATION!?

One of the things we just couldn’t get enough of when working in corporate was vacation days.

We would carefully plan the limited amount of days off work and try to fit as many adventures as possible into our free time. (Which NEVER seemed enough!)

Can you relate?

Today we have a business where freedom is the core value. So the lifestyle we live today is basically what we would have called a “vacation” in the past.

Last week we finished our amazingly successful 5 Days Challenge where almost 400 aspiring Freedom Lifestyle Entrepreneurs joined our world.✨🙌

After days of hard work, we decided to take a 3 weeks vacation and enjoy our time in Tenerife 🌴 to the fullest.

And here’s the crazy thing:

It’s vacation day # 5 / 21 and we already start LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING BACK TO WORK!😄

(... and it’s possible for you to create a life where you are looking forward to work, too!)

The most difficult part about starting your freedom business is “starting”.

When you’re in doubt, the natural instinct is to postpone the starting point to when you feel more ready.

But what if this is the most ready you’ll ever get?

If there is one thing we learnt about building our freedom lifestyle and business, it’s this:

🎯 The path is never straight forward.

At the beginning it will always feel overwhelming. .... because how could you ever feel ready if you don't exactly know what the road will bring?

So here's the solution:

✨🙌🏼 The sooner you START, the sooner you will feel READY.
.. because you will start LEARNING:
✨ … WHAT WORKS for you and your business.

For many years, the only thing in my way was ME. But I didn’t realize it yet. It was my limiting self-belief, my inside-the-box thinking, my believing that it was possible for others but not for me.
