There's much more to Arthur Ferrier's oeuvre than one might assume. As well as being an accomplished draughtsman (as evidenced through his long and celebrated career as an illustrator) he was also a painter of delicate, sensitive portraits. Which style do you prefer? Have a great everyone!

This I'd like to spotlight a lovely piece from the 1930s. This to me seems to represent a transitionary stage from the genteel lifestyle illustrations of his early career (1910s - 1920s) and his more familiar, highly graphic pin-up artwork of the 1940s and beyond. Note the classic Ferrier bo***ir mixed with the delicate lines of his early work!

This I thought I'd share something a bit different - an early 1920's pen and ink sketch. His style was a lot less graphic at this stage but no less beautiful. There's a real warmth and tenderness to his rendering of the bather, those tentative strokes are just full of emotion. What do you think of Ferrier's early work?
