Sh**un is everything I hoped it would be and more. I've been looking forward to this ever since I first heard about it. My excitement grew even more when I saw the trailer. On top of that it's gotten great reviews and currently has a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. I thought my expectations were going to be too much and it'd be a let down but it's not. It's everything I'd hoped for and more. I love this kind of genre. This premise kind of looked like The Last Samurai movie with Tom Cruise and I loved that movie as well. The story is told from the perspective of a British hero named John Blackthorne and his crew as they help Lord Torango in his war. This series just pulls you into their world and doesn't let go and you don't want it to. I've enjoyed every second of this...

Will do the full review once the show is over!!

Anatomy of a Fall is not only one of the most proficiently directed films of 2023, but likewise one of the most emotional and intense.

Although on the surface this may appear like a courtroom drama, the thematic center runs far deeper. At its core, Anatomy of a Fall is a profound exploration of the nature of love burdened by the unbearable weight that time inevitably brings, such as unacquainted frustrations, relinquished dreams, circumstantial sacrifices, stomped ambition, and evolving resentment. Through a relatively simple "is she innocent or guilty" plot we've seen a thousand times before, this film somehow manages to make the drama not about the mystery itself, but rather about the love it surrounds. It's a very brutal and extraordinarily raw examination of the very essence of romantic longevity in the face of individual identity, and how one ultimately oppresses the other.

Spearheading this beautiful story is likewise some of the greatest performances of the entire year. While the conversation is revolved around Sandra Hüller (for good reason, and whom deserves all the critical acclaim that comes her way), I was also enthralled by Swann Arlaud and especially the young Milo Machado Graner, who absolutely blew me away with how much emotion and turmoil he was able to convey with not just his dialogue delivery, but likewise in the subtle nuances of his facial expressions, body blocking, and words unsaid. This is an actor who has an incredible future that can't wait to watch over the coming years.

Overall, this is easily one of the greatest films of the entire year. It's Marriage Story with the backdrop of a captivating courtroom drama, and I recommend it to everyone who loves cinema and doesn't mind the 1-inch barrier of subtitles.

A thought-provoking Iranian film about a desperate man who wants to commit su***de and is looking for someone to bury him after his death.

A film with a simple plot but complex emotions. Beautifully captures the outskirts of Tehran and the gloomy mind of its character.

This is what Iranian cinema is all about. So immersive, the characters with their moral dilemmas, the story feels so real, no BGM, engages you in the contemplation.

It was the first Iranian film to win the Palme d'Or.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith (tv series) has one of the best mature couple conversations. The calm, sweet BG score shows the beauty of married life.

Yea! It gets cheeky at times, but all natural and thorough. Lovin it; From distance, it may look boring, but it's truly special, magical.
It's a brilliant reboot. They changed the tone, style, cheesiness, everything; except for the killing. They are clearly drawing parallels between marital life and reality, which is actually great. The forced togetherness of arranged marriage, gradually bonding, working things out, and finally the BIG FIGHT. I loved the last episode, it was domestic violence on steroids.

However! It's not an action series; it's a drama with a little espionage. Their romance is a bit unconventional — warm but tough, calmly real. The performances are great. I don't think Donald & Maya ke alawa itni achhi tarah se koi pull-off kar bhi pata. Excited for season 2!

Endings aren't just conclusions; they're crescendos of emotion, the grand finale that leaves you breathless, lingering in your mind long after the credits roll. They wrap up the story with a symphony of resolution, revelation, or even revolution, leaving you stunned, satisfied, and yearning for more.

"Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right.

This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world "No, YOU move." ~

Some people tell what's best for others. They don't ask themselves whether to apply it in their own life as it is. Steve being in a therapy group, tells his fellow mates to accept and move on. He consoles each of them by saying- accept, learn and grow. But the captain in him, doesn't abide by the term- 'Move on!. He tells Natasha that they won't move on. They will fight till the last breath to bring back the other half of the world, that was gone with that 'snap' from Thanos. He doesn't quit. Avengers doesn't quit. If you seriously believe in something that, eventually it will be okay, that everything will fall into place- root for it. Never doubt it again. To the fighter in you, tell yourself- can do this all day". Yes. I can do this all day.

Per my opinion, The Witch is one of the greatest horror films of the 21st century.

In my eyes, the strongest aspect this film has going for it is how absolutely dedicated and committed it is to establishing an atmosphere of horror and building tension. When normally other films of the same genre would insert an arbitrary jump-scare into its mix or feel the need to supplement its otherwise slow-nature with something quick and flashy, this film instead chooses to challenge its audience by devoting to its entire thesis to being patient, steady, and measured. It doesn’t rush to scare the audience because it’s intelligent enough to understand that the terror is in what’s not shown, rather than what is.

Furthermore, beyond its impeccable understanding of the essence of dead, this is also just an expertly-crafted film. The acting is all around phenomenal, the cinematography is immaculate, the directing is masterful, the score is haunting, and the writing is superb.

Overall, if you have yet to experience The Witch, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It breaks conventional horror genre tropes and demonstrates an extraordinary comprehension of the complexity of terror.

God bless Robert Eggers.

13/09/2022

I finally watched my most anticipated film of the year - ‘Decision to Leave’! It's by far the best film of the year for me, but I also don't think it's for everyone; find out why below.
It's practically impossible to write a review of the film without giving too much away about the plot and what happens, but I’ll try something.
‘Decision to Leave’ is a romantic mystery that follows a detective who falls for a mysterious widow after she becomes the prime suspect in his latest murder investigation.
The film's surreal plot, which becomes more complex as it goes along, first freaked me out because I love Park’s work and I thought I wouldn’t be able to grasp anything and would ultimately dislike the film, but as you get used to the unusual storyline, you gradually begin to become engrossed in the film's tragic love tale.
The film is a mystery with plenty of plot twists, and you can’t predict what will happen next. The "mystery" turns out to be much more than just a "murder mystery"; it's really more of a riddle about the human condition and how our feelings for other people may spiral out of control.
Although Park's films are generally expertly edited, there is something especially alluring about this one. It is utterly off-beat, and I'm glad he doesn't care about satisfying the audience.
The cinematography here is unquestionably beautiful, and the framing is frequently perplexing.
I must not forget to mention the film's ending because I don't know about the others, but it completely destroyed me, and I didn't move for several minutes. It left a huge impression on me, and because of the film's last few minutes, I will never forget it.
Unfortunately, what ruined my impression a little were the subtitles I had because they weren't the best, and every few minutes it happens that a sentence goes by in less than a second, and then I have to pause the film and rewind it to read everything so that I don't miss anything.
Overall, ‘Decision to Leave’ is another fantastic Chan-wook film that I recommend to everyone, but I feel that many people will not like this film very much because of the rhythm, which will bother them to follow the story.

Beautiful Boy (2018)
‘Beautiful Boy’ really shows how how distressed and powerless a parent can feel when their child is in pain. You understand that all they can do is give unconditional love and support but that they can’t save their child even if they would do anything.
This is a journey of a son and a father trying to cultivate their relationship.
And I also think the soundtrack was on point.
The beauty of this film is that the story is told from both father and son perspectives. Nic writes about what was happening in his head and heart, while David writes what it was like to be a father looking in.
We witness how the addiction affects the entire family and how people can be sucked into the black hole that drugs offer.
Timothée and Steven’s performance is so real and powerful, you feel the emotions they are trying to convey.
The rest of the cast was great and helped elevate the film even further, too.
The song choice and music also helps to emphasize this perpetuity, each time Nic returns to the house the music choice was uplifting versus the intense and angsty choice of music for when he relapses.
Needless to say, there are many different characteristics of the film that make ‘Beautiful Boy’ a must-see.
How did you like the film❓

I know that starting a new series is a big deal, especially if it has a lot of episodes, and it demands a lot of your time if you want to watch it without long breaks between episodes. That's why I'm taking this opportunity to recommend ‘The Sopranos’ because I promise you won't regret it. Right at the beginning of the series, you will see why it has been talked about for 23 years, why it has not lost its popularity, and not only has it not lost its popularity, but it has been constantly popular all this time. You will also understand why many, like me, consider it the best series ever. (Shot from S01 E08 “The Legend of Tennessee Moltisanti)
