Paradise is - hiking though the paramo in guérilla free territory. 10 years ago guérillas controlled these mountains and the lagoons surrounding Bogota. Colombians couldn't access these mountains, some were seeing it for the first time today.
Visited the Museum of the Inquisition in Cartagena. The guidebook warned it was a tough one. It was hard. Really hard. To learn about innocent people who had been tortured - killed in the name of the religion I practice was nauseating. Cartagena has a deep awful slave history which the inquisition made use of. By setting up shop in Cartagena the architect of the inquisition( Torquemada) knew he would capture those that were
' different'- African slaves, Jews, women, scholars who read the forbidden books. Anyone 'different'. The painters depiction of the innocent begging to be 'forgiven' broke me.
Nothing but horror here. And shame for the abuse of Christianity.
We're more than the religion we identify with. Whatever that is or is not. Religion is not a right or power. It's a QUIET PERSONAL spiritual choice. Of you reckoning with your maker or spiritual force or whatever. I don't care.
Too much abuse has happened under that label already.
Sarah Lenka, Paris
Generosity as an artist is when you're booked to play two sold out shows in Paris, and a random fan(ME) writes you on FB few hours before your show to say- WTH! She can't find tickets anywhere.
And you, add random fan and her + 1 to the guest list because....
So that is how I got to watch this unplugged show from right up near the stage. The amazing Sarah Lenka. Her voice is one of those soulful sounds that takes you somewhere far away...
New Yorkers and Parisiennes go listen to her music, watch her shows, show her some love.
