Every business needs its' elevator pitch, a snappy, concise and persuasive spiel to tell customers exactly what you have to offer. But sales and marketing has moved on from the 1990s and customers want more than the car salesman patter.

Customers are able to shop around far easier and they can gather so much more information about your business/product/service than ever before. So it's down to you to demonstrate the impact that your business can have and why this is different to your competitors.

This is where the power of story telling comes into play.

People buy if they feel emotionally connected to you and your brand, if they can resonate with the story you are telling and see the impact your business can have on them.

So, I thought I’d give you my top tips for getting your story down on paper to persuade your audience to start actively engaging with you.

If you have a great story to tell, or you need help putting pen to paper, get in touch - I'd love to hear about your story.

It's Tuesday and here's our Top Tip number Three.

If you are reading this, you may well be using ELM Marketing and Events or I to create your content for social media, a newsletter, a blog or perhaps a video script.

So you have great content that is ready to go! If you don’t already work with either of us, you may have your own content creator or hats off to you, you’re writing your own posts. Either way, posts make great emails.

Most marketers will encourage you to theme your posts for a month or if it’s a broad topic, quarterly, as this will help reinforce your message, offer different perspectives, insights and advice.
Therefore it’s more than likely you have at least 5 posts on the same theme.

As mentioned in Top Tip One, you need a CRM in place and should be utilising the power of LinkedIn. With these tools and content up and running, now all you need to do is create an email sequence.

We both use Mailerlite to create sequences, but there are plenty of CRMs capable of running this for you. The key to a great sequence is knowing what you want as an outcome.

It may be that the sequence leads to a meeting being booked, a questionnaire being completed or even a sale! Being clear on the outcome will help determine the length and focus of the sequence.

The trigger I have set for my sequence is when someone clicks on a button in my newsletter asking about a specific topic. Every sequence needs a starting point, whether it’s a button, a form, a visit to a website page or reaching a set point in the customer journey.

When a contact clicks the button in the newsletter, this usually leads to a download and a series of emails relating to the download, offering added value, a reason to continue the conversation and an opportunity to build a stronger relationship.

There is no set length of a sequence but somewhere between 5-7 emails should be effective. As long as you have something of value to say, then create the email. Plus remember there must always be a call to action.

In terms of frequency in sending the emails, it all depends on making sure the sequence meets the buyer persona and fits with the customer journey.

The emails should be evergreen and universal enough to apply to any prospect who fits the criteria you set. You can use personalisation to customise each email.

Don’t forget to create a strong subject line so that the emails aren’t ignored or sent to spam.

If you are interested in starting your own email sequence, get in touch to request our free user guide.

So... I've been telling you about my webinar on messaging which is taking place on Thursday, and it's got me thinking. Do you know what message BeeTheBuzz is trying to convey?

Obviously as a content creator I am constantly scrutinising other business's messaging strategies, questioning whether what they are saying and how they are saying it will really resonate with their customers.

I am constantly on the lookout for companies with a strong messaging strategy. The ones I love always have one thing in common - they are very simple and straightforward.

One that springs to mind is Mastercard -

"There are some things money can't buy. For everything else, there's MasterCard."

The slogan makes it clear that you can use Mastercard for most purchases, but what's more, it leaves you imagining what about the things you can't buy? It pulls on the consumers' heart strings, making Mastercard seem not only trustworthy and reliable, but sincere.

So with my own messaging strategy, BeeTheBuzz is quite simply about helping you create a buzz about your business with customer-focused strategies and content.

I’d love to hear about the brands you admire for their clear, effective and memorable messaging. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

What are you trying to say? This month I am all about the WHY of content marketing.... WHY is your messaging so important? We know that defining your WHO is crucial, so the next step is - WHY do you need to be spot on with your key messaging? How can you cut through all the noise, position yourself....

Don’t mess about wasting your advertising money without asking the experts Lilac James

They are professional, friendly and will tell you how it is! No empty promises, simply delivering results.

I can’t recommend them highly enough

Are you confident that your business would stand out in a crowd?

I'm not just talking about having a fancy logo and all singing, all dancing promotional materials. I mean, do your customers really understand what you do and why you do it?

Is your messaging about your business simple? Is it obvious to your customers how and why they need you?

Just think for a minute about the brilliant simplicity of Tesco's motto 'Every Little Helps.'

Their motto helps us understand their mission quickly and easily: a little help goes a long way, but it also goes beyond just helping with your shopping. They're also committed to helping customers, colleagues, communities, and the planet.

It's helped them stay on top of the supermarket table - rivalling every competitor.

But, even some of the biggest brands have messaging problems; do you know what these even mean?

Audi: 'Trust in Engineering.'

Victoria's Secret: 'A Body for Every Body.'

My top tip: keep it simple.

On Thursday I am hosting a live session to discuss exactly how you can cut through all the noise, position yourself above your competitors and get your message to your target customer.

More details and registration available here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZ0tc-GhrTosGtNK1VrV3Aachzo3RkGZtyu8

I look forward to seeing you on the live session!

Is the same old thinking getting you the same results?

Madness, isn’t it?

How we convince ourselves that next time it’ll come good – we’ll make the sale, get readers to engage or prospects to sign up?

BUT it rarely does.

Doing the same old newsletter or the same old posts because that’s what worked before won’t necessarily work today.

Times have changed, and we all feel it: Consumers are savvier with their money and know-how.

So, what do you do next?

Give up, stop posting? Tell yourself that Facebook is finished and no longer works, Or maybe your newsletter never gets opened, so what’s the point?

Perhaps you’ve thought about buying a few quid’s worth of FB ads or thought you’d try google this week??

Or maybe you’re considering your friend’s advice because she gets loads of leads from LinkedIn but I never get any connections, though she does sell insurance and you sell clothes – maybe that’s why it doesn’t work??

STOP! Stop guessing; stop throwing it all at the wall and hoping something will stick.

Pause and give yourself time to think. Get clear on what you want to say and how to say it.

1. Go back to the beginning and ask yourself what you’re trying to achieve and why?
2. Get clear on who you’re serving and what they need.
3. Get it all down on paper – brain dump the lot and then start sorting it out 1 piece at a time.

Don’t fancy muddling through this alone?

We’ve got your back: Join Elizabeth Mendes da Costa ELM Marketing and Events and myself for our 1-day workshop THIS FRIDAY because this is exactly what we’ll be doing:

Getting you clear on the content that will work for you to engage, convert and grow your business.

A question for you to ponder over the weekend...

Where does your ideal customer hang out?

You may have the perfect content for your target customer, but will they ever see it?

It's so important to understand WHO your content is for and to make sure the messaging you create reaches them and speaks directly to them.

Feel free to message me and book in a content and coffee chat.

Ahead of my webinar tomorrow, I thought I'd share a little about me. Here I am prepping for the session on Thursday.

Welcome to my desk. Located in the gallery of The Residence, a stunning co-working space, this is where I find inspiration, friendship, tea and cake!

I have a perfectly good office at home, but here I am surrounded by a community of like-minded creatives and friendly faces.

Despite the hum of noise and the comings and goings, I am so much more productive when I’m here, and there’s always a cuppa on the go, so it’s a total no-brainer.

At the office, we’re a melting pot of scriptwriters, change management consultants, comms specialists, tech managers, stadium designers, PR specialists, interior designers, illustrators…the list goes on.

There’s always something fascinating to learn about and chat over a cuppa.

We have fresh flowers, freshly baked cinnamon buns, and once a month, we get out the slow cooker and FEAST together on pulled pork buns or veggie curry.

I love where I work and wouldn’t swap it for all the tea in China!

Where’s your desk? I’d love to see it.

How to identify your audience and what they need.
Who is your ideal customer?
Who are you helping?
Who is the decision maker?

Audit your current messaging
Does it connect with your Who? Does it resonate emotionally, connect your customer more deeply to your business, and generate loyalty to your brand? How do you know?

Review, rework and refine your messaging
Think about whose life will be easier because of your product/service. How will their life be better? What are they struggling with? How do you help them?

“Don’t find customers for your products; find products for your customers.”

I love this quote from Seth Godin; it tells us that when we truly know who are customers are, then and only then can we create what they want before they even know they need it – in an ideal world, eh?

Well, why not? If you can engage with them successfully and bring them into your ‘Tribe’ they’ll buy anything from you.
Just think about dungarees and onesies for adults!

So let’s talk about HOW you can engage successfully.

Before you pick up a pen or open your laptop and begin writing, WHO are you writing to?

If you aren’t crystal clear on this, put down the pen, shut the laptop, get a cuppa and sort it out!

Honestly, unless you know WHO you’re talking to, you’ll never get people to engage with your posts, blogs and even website.

Knowing your audience is business 101. That’s why some brands work, and others don’t.

Knowing your audience creates context and purpose in your communications.

What does this mean?
It means you’ll resonate emotionally with them: you’ll connect on a deeper level, and that’s what you’re aiming for.

WHY?

Because that’s when people buy into you and your brand; it’s when sales happen.

In my webinar on Thursday 6th October 12pm, I’ll be sharing

HOW to identify your audience and what they need

WHY it’s important to regularly audit and review your messaging

HOW to rework and refine messages that align with your target audience.

Sign up below and receive your free download to identify the WHO in your business.
