My thank you letter to the businesses and officials who lit PA teal!

Fort Ligonier recently held a symposium on the Seven Years’ War which started right here in Southwestern Pennsylvania! Read more to see how it went and stop by Fort Ligonier and check out their museum and historic site!

Four presenters took what many of us know of as a regional conflict which we call the “French and Indian War” involving the British and French Empires, as well as several indigenous nations and confederacies, and opened our eyes to a wider world conflict.

"Dear PGH Museums,

Congratulations on your name change and becoming the New Pittsburgh Exposition!"

Enjoy this fictional rendition of a letter penned to The New Pittsburgh Exposition from the original Pittsburgh Exposition of the late 1800s/early 1900s which comes from the creative mind of Victoria Sterling!

I'm thrilled to announce that PGH Museums has undergone a transformation and is now The New Pittsburgh Exposition!

The rebranding carries on our traditions of promoting our region's culture, the new website gives it a fresh look, while also paying tribute to our past.

Please check it out and let me know what you think!

We'd like to reintroduce ourselves. PGH Museums is now The New Pittsburgh Exposition. Inspired by the Pittsburgh expositions of the late 1800’s and early 1900’s, these large events brought in exhibits from all across the country and attracted people from all over our region. It was like Pittsburgh’s own local version of an annual world’s fair. The expositions were held in a large hall where Point State Park is located today along the Allegheny River. These events had a wide reach with advertisements landing in papers across the region, even reaching into Ohio, and would bring in as many as ten thousand people a day to see the show.

Exposition Hall served many purposes after the days of the expositions. At different stages the building served as a music hall, a hockey arena, and eventually as a machine shop and garage for the city. The building was demolished in 1951 for the development of Point State Park. We hope to keep the history and spirit of the former Exposition Hall and the Western Pennsylvania Exposition Society (commonly called Pittsburgh Exposition) alive in our own way by adopting the name and continuing to share our regions art, museums, culture, exhibitions, and other events through our own modern digital channels (and beyond) today.

If you're wondering, our logo is a recreation of an old newspaper advertisement for the expo!

Check out our site, thenewpittsburghexposition.org and we hope you enjoy our fresh new look :)

Thanks to board member Veronica Jancuk for the leading the rebrand as well as designing and rebuilding the new site. 🖤

There is a great exhibit featuring the work and life of Maxo Vanka, an incredible artist who painted stunning murals in St Nicholas Church in Millvale at Rivers of Steel in Homestead.

Here’s my fantastic conversation with the exhibit curator Steffe Domike and Anna Doering, the director of the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka.

Please give it a listen and let me know what you think!

Maxo Vanka (1889 – 1963), a Croatian immigrant and renowned artist has created his “Gift to America” to the Pittsburgh region, an entire sanctuary, the Saint Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale, covered in dynamic murals depicting powerful messages of workers’ struggle, war, capita...

This month's The New Pittsburgh Exposition Podcast edition is out!

DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh has seen more than 22 thousand people attend their many events of neighborhood, destination, and boat tours, throughout the city of Pittsburgh, since its inception in 2016. Bonnie Baxter, Doors Open’s founder, had no previous event planning experience, so how was she able to achieve such success, and how does she keep bringing people back for more?

We talk to Bonnie to find out, and we talk to Doors Open Pittsburgh tour guide Todd Wilson, and Doors Open volunteer Christine Montgomery to find out how Bonnie’s vision and work created opportunities for them to live their passions. Discover how passions collide on this edition of The New Pittsburgh Exposition.

The next boat tour is Saturday September 16th and the next neighborhood event, in Pittsburgh’s South Side, will be on September 23rd.

Pittsburgh, PA, lit up TEAL yesterday on the first of Tourette Syndrome Awareness Month!

A whopping five buildings displayed their support for Tourette Syndrome and Tic Disorders awareness. The TAA is incredibly grateful for these acknowledgements from the Gulf Tower, Fifth Avenue Place, Koppers Building, 20 Stanwix, and the One Oxford Center.

We're so proud to be a part of a community that pushes forward initiatives like this to spread the word about TS and Tic Disorders. Stay tuned for more Awareness Month activities coming soon and find more ways you can help spread awareness at tourette.org/awareness.

I was invited to this but couldn’t make it. Sounds like I should have rescheduled my things. Looking forward to seeing the next one!

The music was sublime, a mix of classical, jazz, and some styles I’m not even sure have names. All of it brilliant. None of it too heady to enjoy. If you weren’t there, you missed something special.

Check out my latest piece on the Millvale murals of Maxo Vanka! this is a must read and a place you MUST visit!

133 years young, the painter known for his murals at Millvale’s Saint Nicholas Croatian Church, Maxo Vanka is alive and well in 2022. He’s also hip to 2022 tech. Though he’s shed his earthly body, his soul can be felt through new works of art and his voice heard through the murals on the churc...

Read about my experience seeing the US Navy Band Sea Chanters ad Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum!

The powerful sound of the Battle Hymn of the Republic thundered through the majestic and commodious auditorium of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum, in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, as the US Navy Band Sea Chanters closed out their Pittsburgh performance on a nationwide tour.

Thank you Amanda for all the work you have done in Pittsburgh!

I’m excited to announce that I am working with the PA Tourette Syndrome Alliance to create an ongoing video series. The series will include information on advocacy and events, the science behind TS and how it works, medical practices used to treat TS, conversations between teens with TS, and 4 features of adults living with TS (that’s what I’ll be hosting and filming). I will be working with editing all of the features. The videos will come out twice a month.

In its inaugural video I speak with PATSA executive Sara Woolf about what PATSA is and does, and what to expect in upcoming videos. I hope you enjoy!
