NTO, EX ASCETA PROVOST, MOURNS IRUKWU

The immediate past Provost of Abia State College of Education, Technical, Arochukwu, Dr Philips Nto has described the death of Prof Joe Irukwu as a great loss to young Nigerian scholars.

He said the late insurance guru and consummate academic was always passionate in assisting young scholars in realizing their dreams in academics.

Dr Nto who described himself as a beneficiary of Prof Irukwu's large-heartedness, recalled when the former president of Ohanaeze Ndigbo obliged him to deliver a lecture at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, umudike.

" When I was Deputy Director for the Centre for Gender and Child Development at Michael Okpara University, I invited him to deliver a lecture and he accepted because he believed in assisting the young ones to climb the ladder of success", he recalled.

Nto also recalled that Prof Irukwu accepted an honorary doctorate degree from the same University through him, and regretted that death could not allow him realize the research center he promised the institution at the occasion.

The former Provost noted that apart from being a national and international figure, Prof Irukwu never forgot his root, hence he rallied other notable Abians for the appointment of an Abia son as the current Vice Chancellor of the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, umudike.

According to Nto, " When it became obvious that some forces didn't want an Abia son as VC, I cried out to him and he rallied other notable Abians including Gen Ike Nwachukwu, Admiral Ebitu Ukiwe to make it possible for Prof M O Iwe to be appointed. So his death is also a personal loss to me".

Dr Nto however said he is consoled by the fact that Prof Irukwu left many enduring legacies which will serve as a reminder to the great man that he was.

He called on the Abia State state government to immortalise the late professor as an encouragement to those
who are devoted to serving Abia faithfully.

IKPEAZU ORDERS IMMEDIATE CANCELATION OF SCHOOL FEES HIKE AT ABSU

The Governor of Abia State and Visitor to the Abia State University, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has directed the Management of the Abia State University to immediately cancel the increase in School Fees announced by it today.

The Governor states that the increase which is by over 350% is unacceptable to the State Government, especially in view of the current economic realities in the country.

The Governor while acknowledging that it is becoming increasingly challenging for the University to play its role under the current fiscal regime however added that the University Management must understand clearly that it must ensure that children of the poor in the State are given the opportunity to access tertiary education.

Governor Ikpeazu further directs the University Management to engage with all relevant stakeholders in the University Community and have robust discussions before contemplating any geometric hike in School Fees, assuring that the State Government will continue to support the institution with subventions.

The Governor assures all students, parents and guardians of the University that their interests will consistently be protected by the State Government.

PEAK FOUNDATION AROCHUKWU LGA ASSURES OKEY AHIWE OF THEIR HUGE SUPPORT.

A notable organization in Arochukwu LGA, PEAK Foundation has assured the PDP governorship flag bearer in the 11th March,2023 polls Chief Okey Ahiwe of their total support to realize his dream as the next governor of Abia State.

The group who were on a solidarity visit to chief Ahiwe at his Isiala Ngwa country home led by the foundation of the organization Prince Eric A*o Kalu express their readiness to deliver him and all PDP candidates for transparency in governance.

Speaking, Prince Eric A*o Kalu Founder PEAK Foundation commend the governorship candidate for granting them audience despite his tight schedule and promised to work with him until his dream is achieved.

Contributing, the Director General (DG) of the organization Hon.Nnanna Agwu Oriba made it clear that PEAK as a group has been in existence for the past ten years with over four thousand members and has been instrumental to the developmental strides so far recorded in Arochukwu LGA through their activities in terms of human empowerment.

In their contributions, Dr.Ama Udoo and Mrs.Jane Silas assured Chief Okey Ahiwe of their block votes as Arochukwu LGA is PDP.

In his response, the PDP governorship flag bearer was overwhelmed by their visit and asked them to move down to the grassroots and canvas for support with the firm promise to partner with them by the special Grace of God when the dream is realized.

MAO VS OUK.
Truth must be told as the forthcoming Senatorial election particularly in Abia North will be remarkable in the history of the zone as the 25th Feb decides who stays to steer the ship or who retires to play the role of elder statesman.

The long awaited day is around the corner, barely three (3) days to decide who becomes the champion.

No doubt the atmosphere is fully charged as supporters and Party faithful from the two camps (APC/PDP) are not ignorant of winner takes all which probably determines their political direction.

OUK as the former governor of the state is endowed with so much skills to achieve his target while Mao as an astute lawmaker with oratory prowess and pedigree in terms of legislative business has no comparism.

The two great sons of Abia North are good in their various capacities but must have in mind that a winner must surely emerge on the D-DAY.

ERONDU JNR'S PHILANTHROPY TO HIS PEOPLE OF OBINGWA.

All these refer to Hon.Erondu Uchenna Erondu jnr the PDP flag bearer Obingwa West state Constituency whose philanthropic gestures cut across all nooks and crannies of the state especially in youth empowerment and the lesspriviled ones in our society including widows whose means of survival in terms of food and shelter is nothing to write home about until the present administration came onboard ably led by Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the executive governor of Abia state and Abia South PDP Senatorial candidate whose adminstration wiped the agony of Widows in the state through er****on of infrastructures and cash donations and other incentives to alleviate their suffering which Vica Hope foundation, the pet project of the wife of the governor has never relented.

Erondu jnr as he is fondly called has always towed the footsteps of his boss Dr.Okezie Ikpeazu in rendering services to the poor and has quickly come to the rescue of Madam Gladys, a native of Avor in Umuopara Egbelu, Obingwa LGA who could be said was living in a shanty before in his usual manner Erondu intervened and built a modern bungalow for her which she never expected as all hope was lost.

In appreciation, the widow who could not believe such magnanimity in tears prayed God to bless Hon.Erondu Uchenna Erondu jnr and grant him massive victory in the forthcoming election.

ABIA BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION CALLS ON CANDIDATES OF VARIOUS POLITICAL PARTIES TO PLAY THE GAME ACCORDING TO THE RULES:

A prestigious media organization in the state with the brand name, Abia Broadcasters Association has called on political parties and their candidates to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and play by the rules especially as 2023 election approaches.

The statement was made when the executives of the Association led by Mr.Bright Ejike (aka) Igoyan of Rapid FM went on a media parley with Sen.Mao Ohuabunwa, Abia North PDP Senatorial candidate.

The group frowned at the high level of unprofessionalism in the media industry especially social media where quacks domicile thereby misinforming the public and causing instability in the society through propaganda.

He called on those involved to have a rethink and avoid stories that could project individual image, the state and of course the country in bad light.

In his speech, the Abia North PDP Senatorial candidate Sen. Mao Arukwe Ohuabunwa thanked the group for the visit which is significant especially at this trying moment in Nigeria and fortunately as the atmosphere is charged with political activities.

Sen.Ohuabunwa also called on the media to balance their reports with facts before publishing and should avoid using the platform to antagonize those they don't like their faces but should protect the image of the nobel profession as professionals.

Meanwhile, before now the group have had one on one interaction with the Speaker of the state House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji who also appreciated the organization and its activities.

ABIA STATE PRESIDENT NCWS SENSITIZES WOMEN AND YOUTH ON THE NEED TO COLLECT THEIR PVC'S:

The State President National Council for Women Societies (NCWS) Mrs.Agnes Okafo Okoreaffia (JP) has called on Women and Youths in Abia who are yet to collect their PVC's to be guided by the recently published INEC timetable for the collection of PVC'S which commenced from 6th-15th.

In a release signed by the State NCWS boss Mrs. Agnes Okafo Okoreaffia emphasized that the said date which is 6tth-15th will be collection of PVC'S from the polling units in which they are going to vote while 16th-22nd of January will be the last day for the process as there wouldn't be any extension.

She made it clear that it is only the PVC that can give one the right to vote any candidate of her choice in the forthcoming elections therefore, should make good of the opportunity before the stipulated time elapses.

COURT SACKS ONYEMEREZE ADIGHIKACHAYA PRINCE, APC HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY CANDIDATE FOR OBINGWA WEST STATE CONSTITUENCY.

The Federal High Court sitting in Umuahia, has sacked the Obingwa West APC HOUSE of Assembly candidate Onyemereze Adighikachaya Prince as a result of a law suit instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the failure of the APC Candidate to attach evidence of educational qualifications in the documents submitted to the Independent Electoral commission (INEC).

In the suit, PDP prayed the court to nullify the affidavit submitted by the APC Candidate.

The Presiding Judge, Justice M.G Umar, in his judgment agreed with the originating summon of the PDP that challenged the qualifications of the APC candidate.

Onyemereze who claimed to have a First School Leaving Certificate, NABTEB and Diploma, could not provide any of those certificates but instead, submitted affidavits to INEC.

Report has it that since the judgement was delivered in favour of PDP that it has not been appealed as the 14 days window period elapsed over the weekend.

The Obingwa West State constituency House of Assembly candidate Hon.Erondu Uchenna Erondu jnr has congratulated the Governor Dr.Okezie Victor Ikpeazu for assenting to H.A.B 61,"the law which provides for the rights of female persons to own and inherit property and others".

ABIA STATE CHAPTER OF NCWS APPLAUDS ENGR. CHINEDUM ORJI.

The National Council of women Societies NCWS Abia State chapter has applauded the Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Engr. Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji for passing into law HAB 61, "the law which provides for the rights of female persons to own and inherit property and others supported by the entire House.

Speaking in and interview, the state president of NCWS Mrs. Agnes Okafor Okoreaffia JP commended the speaker for the bold step, describing him as gender sensitive leader whose name will be written in gold for this singular gesture.

Mrs. Okoreaffia however appreciated Abia lawmakers for making laws that will protect the rights of Abia women which will go a long way to nip on the bud discrimination against women.

She prayed God to grant the speaker and entire House members divine wisdom and good health as they make laws that will be beneficial to Abians.

The group led by Prince Omereonye Ugochukwu enumerated all the laudable achievements of Hon.Erondu while he served as the chairman Obingwa LGA, Special Adviser on special duties which he judiciously used in touching lives positively especially widows, the downtrodden and less privilege in society which includes scholarship awards.

RT. HON. IFEANYI UCHENDU HAS MADE NDE ABAM PROUD~NWOSU

An illustrious son of Abam Onyerubi in Arochukwu LGA Chief Ogbonnaya Nwosu who was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of "Okeosisi Abam" which literally means the "Iroko of the land" by the 26 traditional rulers in Abam clan has given his support to Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu, the Deputy speaker Abia state House of Assembly and PDP flag bearer for Federal House of Representatives (Arochukwu/Ohafia) Federal constituency.

Chief Nwosu, a renowned media professional, German trained thermographer and one time SA to Abia state Governor Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu thanked Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu for playing an all inclusive politics and described him as a trailblazer.
