I would like to thank the University of the Philippines for taking the time to issue a clarificatory statement about the status of my institutional affiliation/relations with the University of the Philippines.
While I did not cause the postings of the FB posts, I stand by my public statement on my disagreement with the UP-DND Accord. I hope concerned UP officials will also take time viewing the entire interview where I was quoted by the AFP-CRS and other interviews by other media outfits.
Let me reiterate that in my personal view, the UP-DND Accord is an affront to the integrity of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as well as the the men and women who risks their lives keeping the people safe and secure.
I challenge everyone who support this accord to exhaust all legal means to defend this faulty accord. I challenge our lawmakers, if you think this accord has basis in philosophy, legality, and practicality, to immediately propose a bill that carries the intent and effect of the accord. Let this issue be debated by and in the right institution.
It is immaterial whether I was just a Senior Lecturer of UP, as I am in other reputable Heigher Education Institutions. It doesn’t make a difference whether I am tenured faculty or part time faculty of the University. Any Member of the UP Alumni could make their views on the Accord known to the public. The UP-DND Accord is a national issue and every citizen of this country has a stake on this issue.
It would have been better if UP made clarificatory statements on the ideas and statements I shared during my interview on the Accord. This is what the public hopes to more about.
It is unfortunate that fellow UP alumni attack my person instead of my ideas. Every UP scholar knows that academic freedom only supports battle of ideas and not of personality.
