Characters include; Norman MacLeod, who is the original main presenter, Chris Harvey, a reporter, Dougie Smith, who is a fictional reporter and not associated with the original show, Tyrone Smith, who originally presents sports, Nedward McTaggart, who does local news and is another fictional character and Sean Batty, who originally presents weather. The show features some made up stories such as "
an old man being attacked by berries" and someone who seriously injures themselves after "bashing their elbow off a lamp post." Angered reports on wheelie bins, fake spiders and self checkouts are just some of the things Dougie Smith reports on while Nedward McTaggart (Class A ned) does all the local news. Most parts of the show follow a script, but many more parts are improvised. There are currently only three people involved in making STV Mock News; Chris Scott, who is the Executive Producer, Dylan Dalgarno, Associate Producer and cast member and Patrick Gray, who edits the show and writes the script.
