Just an inner city peach
My neighbour said I could eat
My other neighbour said,
"You'll like the colour"

And I did.
Like the colour.
I also liked the peach.

And it made me wonder;
Why the people from the council had said,
my street was "too narrow for any more trees".

Because this peach was delicious
and food poverty is high in my part of town
and its nice to have a fruit tree nearby
and a neighbour to share the fruit with.

Excited to be off to the Arboricultural Association's annual amenity conference this evening to learn more about how to look after trees. I am there with Crown Tree Consultants helping Crown Trees Ivan and the UK's only decay detection dog Sika put on a workshop tomorrow and Tuesday afternoon.. 🌳 🐶 🍄

Separately from this; I am particularly interested in how we treat young urban trees and looking forward to speaking to a few of you about how we can improve *the situation* 🌱 💀 🙈 in cities and towns over the next decade...see you there!

Please share this video if you know people who procure, plant or design spaces for trees.

A sustainable city vision for Bristol articulated by Hannah Bunn Illustration & Design for Avon Wildlife Trust; we are truly inspired!

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! I've been sharing little instagram friendly snippets of this over the week but here it is in it's entirety.

I recently got to work on a wonderful project for Grow Wilder and the Avon Wildlife Trust. They asked me to create an image to inspire people to take action for nature and 'wild up' their gardens, balconies and community spaces, making diverse habitats for the local wildlife.

It really was a wildlife crash course for me, post-it notes coming out my ears with all the names.. I certainly wasn’t aware of the Corky Fruited Drop Wort before and couldn’t stop muttering it’s name for weeks after!!

I seem to have spent a lot of time this year talking about and improving in #2022

Biodiversity Net Gain, aka , calculated through the will only be a success if it is delivered with sincerity and enforced appropriately at every level.

The needs this to lessen its significant impact on nature (the UK being one of the most nature depleted countries in the world!) and we have to hold them to account at every turn because this is the 13th hour.

WE may be able to survive a bleak and overheated future - but nature as we know it cannot; so take these things seriously in 2023: because the time for change is right now, together, for the future.

Q. How can we shape better places for people and wildlife?
A. By changing the way we design, build and maintain the urban realm.

⚡ Exciting news! ⚡

The Tree Grower's Guide website is now LIVE! It includes the extended version of the Tree Grower's Guide (200 pages) in digital format, as well as links to all our Copse in a Box videos. There's also helpful posters to download such as how to design a woodland and how to build a community tree nursery.

We're so thrilled that this is live - it's been over a year in the creation and will hopefully inspire people up and down the nation to get growing!

Check out the new website here: https://treegrowersguide.org.uk/

This project was generously funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund , Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) , Environment Agency and Natural England . With thanks to our partners, The Tree Council , Cornwall Council and Norfolk County Council .

Brilliant company doing wonderful things 🙌💫

In 2022 a truely ethical brand grows worm-real-estate on top of everything else it’s doing; they heal as they grow - and they don’t ask someone else to do it for them.

Some of our photos in a website relaunch for the awesome environmental charity Avon Needs Trees.

I’m not calling them a tree planting charity because they do much more than JUST plant trees (although they are really good at that too!).

If you live in the South West and want to get out and about to keep fit this autumn, or connect to something outside the city of Bristol, check out their website and sign up for emails about volunteering opportunities.

Introducing Avon Needs Trees's brand new website!

If you have visited our website recently, you may have noticed some changes in our branding. This is one of the many exciting things we have been working on over the past few months, and we hope to share more with you soon - keep an eye on our social media and newsletter for the latest updates!

While our look may be a bit different, our mission to create new permanent woodlands throughout Bristol-Avon remains the same. It does however come as part of our growth as a charity as we work to create more woodlands than ever before. In line with ANT’s ethos, we’ve ensured this change has been made in a cost-effective and sustainable way.

We hope you like our new look and thank you all for the incredible support you have shown us in our journey so far.

Have you noticed the leaves dropping from the trees? 🍂 You may be thinking Autumn is already upon us! However, the trees are reacting to the hot weather we've had recently and trying to protect themselves, reserving energy for the winter ahead.

We've noticed that along with the leaves, some trees have been dropping their seeds and nuts too - as they are energy-intensive to grow.

So, we've started our seed collection Sundays early this year to align ourselves with the trees. If you'd like to join us, we visit a different woodland each Sunday around Dartmoor and South Devon. We collect native broadleaf tree seed which we will nurture into the future woodlands of the SW. Suitable for all the family! We also run a free minibus pick-up service from Plymouth, saving you money and saving the 🌍.

When picking seed we always ensure there's enough left for wildlife and natural regeneration. We also ensure to collect from multiple 'mother trees' to increase biodiversity. We are considerate of the surrounding area and always ask for permission!

A striking bloody henry sea star (Henricia sp.) in the cool clear kelp-rich waters of the Inner Hebrides! Bloody henry sea stars are one of the British Isles’ most vibrant species of sea star and one I’ve been hoping to see for years!

This weekend I’ve been in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 with chasing Minkes (with successful sightings but no successful shots!) and other marine wildlife!

The marine environment and biodiversity here is remarkable and it’s interesting seeing the differences between my island waters down south and these Atlantic Hebridean seas! Many species are familiar faces, but others like the bloody Henry are rare or absent in our southern waters!

We talked about glitter first because it's shiny: but in reality, we have something much bigger in our crosshair: all plastic, everywhere.

70% of clothing is made from plastic.

Tyers create more particulate pollution by volume than exhaust.

It's in our blood, in our lungs, in Antarctica. ALDFG (pic below) is a threat to all ocean ecosystems.

It didn't have to be like this, and it doesn't have to stay this way.

From fashion to fishing - we need immediate regulation.
