Tisha B'Av. In English - "The Ninth of Av." Av is the name of the 11th month on the civil Hebrew calendar. The Ninth of Av is a memorial holiday of mourning. Most, if not all holidays are for celebrations aren't they? Why mourning on the Ninth of Av?
Well the quickest way to answer is a list of events/dates.
First, to give a quick background: You may have heard of "The Exodus" - The Exodus is the reason many Americans & other westerners get off from work & school on Passover. Its not even a national holiday in the U.S. - but take note how an event/date affects people who know nothing about it 3,500 after it happened. Anyway - the Exodus: Moses (after getting instructions & power from "I am") - led the Israelites out of Egypt - after they had been trapped there for nearly 400 years. Sorry - need to pause again... Think about that - 400 years. The United States is 248 years old in 2024. Imagine a whole nation - generations lived & died as slaves - then suddenly a deliverer shows up - says somebody named "I am" will rescue them. He rescues them. Big time. Egypt is totally decimated. About 2 million people gather up all the Egyptian treasure and follow a giant tornado of smoke through the desert... which turned into a giant tornado of fire at night so they could see it. Anyway - they get rescued - with cataclysmic miracles that are frankly beyond belief for the average modern person. After they are rescued - they start complaining. Finally, when they get to their destination - on "THE NINTH OF AV" - they complain so bad & are so frozen with fear that "I am" was fed up with them. So on the "Ninth of Av" - "I am" punishes them and tradition holds that He forever curses that date. Every complainer who was 20 years & older of the 2 million Israelites who were rescued were cursed to be lost in the desert until they died. They wandered in circles in the desert for 40 years until the last complainer died off. After that last whiner died, they were allowed into "The Promised Land." Thats the same promised land that has motivated thousands of angry mobs to shout in the street this year- that it will be 'free from the river to the sea..." Kind of odd isn't it? It's barely the size of one U.S. state - and yet the world is ready to start WW3 over it.
So as I said above - the date of the Ninth of Av was cursed... If it was you would think we might see some evidence of it...
- 586 BC - 9th of Av - Babylon destroys the First Temple - Jews go into exile for 70 years.
- 70 AD - 9th of Av - Rome destroys the 2nd Temple - Millions killed - surviving Jews go into exile until 1948
- 135 AD - 9th of Av - Jewish revolt of Bar Kochba - the last stronghold of the Jewish revolt fell on that day to the Romans - over 500,000 killed.
- 136 AD - 9th of Av - Emperor Hadrian plows the Temple Mount under - completely erasing it - to build Temple to Jupiter. Israel is renamed "Palestina" by the Romans to erase the memory of Israel.
- 1290 AD - 9th of Av - Jews kicked out of England.
- 1492 AD - 9th of Av - Jews kicked out of Spain by the King & Queen.
- 1914 AD - 9th of Av - WWI starts. Upheaval of European Jewry - culminating in WWII.
- 1941 AD - 9th of Av - N**i Party approved "The Final Solution"
.. We could go on - thats just a sampling of events that just happened to fall on that day of mourning...
Anyway - here we are in 2024. A whole bunch of people are clamoring for a final solution, and several nations have their cannons pointed at Israel.
Is the curse still in effect? Is there about to be a reversal? The exile part of the curse was reversed in 1948. But what about the Temple Mount? Right now it remains 'plowed under,' and on top of millennia of rubble there currently stands a a highly contested Islamic shrine & mosque. The inscription on that shrine - known as the "Dome of the Rock" states among other things - that God does not have a son.
Tomorrow is the 9th of Av.
