We got the chance to compare two, new to market, camping pads made by with 2 pads made by some of the most well known brands in backpacking. And ya know what? We were very pleasantly surprised!

We absolutely love camping and backpacking! I know most of you think “of course you do, don’t you camp all day every day?” But the truth is RV living is not camping. It’s living in a home that has wheels on it and relocates often.

But in the last 2 years we have grown to love “real” camping. Like in a tent! Sometimes many miles from the nearest road, far into the wilderness, where you have to carry all of your necessary gear on your back.

So when Bestway contacted us and asked us to review their camping pads, we were really stoked!

After taking several backpacking trips we have learned that having good, lightweight gear is super important. Space is limited and every item you choose to bring needs to be one that you feel is up to the task.

Bestway sent us their Wanderlite pad made for warmer weather camping, and their Alpinelite Insulated Sleeping Pad, made for extreme weather camping. They also provided us with two of their well-known competitors’ pads, the Klymit Static V2 and the Sea to Summit Etherlight XT Xtreme.

We decided to look at 7 different areas when comparing the pads that we feel are the foundation of a good camping pad.

These 7 things are:

1. Ease to pack in backpack and Repack after use
2. Amount of space taken up in a pack
3. Quality and feel of the material
4. How noisy they are when moving around at night (This might be one of the most important to me!)
5. Overall Comfort
6. Coolness (for lightweight pad) and Warmth (for the extreme weather pad).
7. Weight and Size

For each of the products we asked ourselves about these 7 areas and were very surprised that the Bestway products really performed well when compared to their competitors.

If you would like to read our full review, you can find it here https://thathinsonlife.com/bestway-camping-pad-review/ .

We provide a full break down of the differences and why we would actually choose the Bestway products over their competitors!

Easter 2023! Easter came in the middle of a long 1300 mile trek to our next spot. So we decided to stop for two nights at a to make the most of it and have time for celebrating.

I think this is one of my favorite things about traveling with our "house" everywhere we go! We can easily accommodate a celebration in the middle of nowhere, while still making ground to our next destination.

So before we left, I bought canvas bags instead of Easter baskets ($3 Target section for the win 🙌) and all the stuff that we would need to fill them and the items we'd need for a banging Easter Celebration.

I wanted Easter "baskets" that the kids could use later and be able to add their own artistic flare to. I wasn't sure if they'd still be into that kind of thing. But luckily they were and I love how they turned out!

We still did an Easter Egg hunt but had to up our game since the kids are getting so much older! And most teen/tweens won't turn down the opportunity to get free candy, so they all had a blast. We hid some of them so well that we didn't find them until the next day 😂.

And I'm absolutely terrible about taking the time to get family photos (with me in them too). So I thought that this was as good a time as any!

I hope that all of you had a great Easter as well and spent some time with someone you love.

I'm grateful for the chance to celebrate the selfless, sacrificial love that forever changed the world.

May we all learn to love like that.

I ran my first half marathon in 4.5 years this past weekend 🎉🎉🏃🏻‍♀️!

I’d love to say that I loved it and it was easy, but I didn’t and it wasn’t 😂. It was work the whole time. But…I am glad that I did it.

I finished in the time that I had expected and finished 3rd in my age group. So that was cool. And the people of Buckeye did an amazing job making the race a success!

It’s funny because this last year I’ve been learning about striving and stressing less and respecting my body more.

This race was harder I think because I didn’t feel the need to prove myself so some of the drive that comes with that was missing. In the end though, I did prove to myself that I am consistent and I can trust in that.

Normally the night before a race I’m all anxious and worried but this time I chose to be present with those around me.

I enjoyed a delicious dinner made my good friend and hung out with her and my family after. It felt strange for me to be at peace about everything and ok with however the race turned out.

I feel like this was a huge milestone for me, to finally be settling in to knowing who I am and what I am made of without all the extra stress.

It only took me 41 years to really start getting the hang of it. 😂😂

So cheers to all of us out here learning how to be and liking who we are. Let keep rocking this!

We had a great Thanksgiving with old and new friends this year.

We were able to make all of our favorites in the rv with some serious planning and the help of the instapot and Ninja Foodi.

We of course missed being with family but we’re grateful for the good company of friends!

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is enjoying some tasty leftovers this weekend!

One of the coolest things about spending 2 weeks in Lake Louise was being able to explore 3 different Canadian National Parks.

Within a short drive of Lake Louise is Yoho National Park, Kootnenay NP, and Banff town center and National Park.

They are all gorgeous and provide so many different natural wonders to see and explore!

This was a natural bridge in Yoho National Park. It was surrounded by a gorgeous glacier fed river and the best part was that it’s right off the road and didn’t even require a hike to see it!

I also played around with long exposure photos (thanks to my oldest daughter’s instructions) that made the cool effect on the water in some of the photos.

Have you ever been to any Canadian National Parks? In all of our travels so far they provide some of the most awe inspiring nature. If they are not on your bucket list yet, you gotta add them!
