I’d like to announce the release of a project that I have been working on for the past year and a half - DESI PUNX: a zine highlighting voices from the South Asian diaspora. It is a project that is deeply personal to me - I have struggled seeing people like myself in the scenes that I keep so close to my heart. I hope that with this project, I can bring more Desi Punks together to share their experiences. We need to create our own spaces!!
Within this first issue, I interview Dr Madhu Krishnan, who, as a teenager, was a member of an underground feminist punk movement called riot grrrl. I also interview Jyoti of Berlin-based grunge group Passionless Pointless (she is the cover picture). Both interviews are super interesting even if you do not identify as a Desi or a Punk - the themes discussed are universal. I also hope that by reading this zine you learn more about me and my experiences with alienation.
