Books have been a constant in my life for as long as I can remember, and I can't begin to say how much they've changed my life - in ways I never thought possible. They've opened doors to new worlds, taught me great lessons, and introduced me to bookish friends right here on ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ“š

On this World Book Day, I want to emphasize the crucial importance of books in building up literacy and changing lives. I also want to acknowledge all book lovers and book nerds out there. I see you!๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ

Happy World Book Day!

โฃ
I'm a big advocate for mental and emotional health, so I was happy to get the opportunity to read this book, as I felt like it came at a really good time!
โฃ
In this devotional, the Carey Scott emphasizes that God wants us to invest in our emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. It is His desire that we prosper and be in good health, just like our soul prospers. If our soul isn't well, we can't love others in a wholesome way. Good health equals being healthy in every way, including mentally and emotionally. Pursue good health in all areas; we can't be all that God is calling you to be if we're constantly falling short in any of these areas.โฃ
โฃ
Each page in the devotional focuses on different aspects of health, with scriptures to back up, and a short but meaningful prayer at the end of each page. There are various factors that can contribute to emotional and mental ill health, like discouragement, worry, self-criticism, complaining, fear, pride, self-dependency, and comparison. Comparison, in particular, is a joy thief. Do not allow yourself to wallow in comparison because you may think others are ahead of you in life or that you're not good enough. You are good enough. God thinks you are, and that's all that matters. Be the best version of yourself you can be, and pursue righteousness wholly. That's all God wants from us.โฃ
โฃ
I love the creativity in the pages as well. As an editor and technical writer who works with design elements almost every day, I have to say I appreciate how the colors, fonts, and images come together in each page. There was clearly a lot of thought that went into making these pages, and my aesthetic senses appreciate them๐Ÿ”ฅ
โฃ
The Self-care Devotional truly is a lovely book and I highly recommend! โฃ
โฃ
Special thanks to Barbour Publishing and Netgalley for the gifted advance copy๐Ÿ’ The Self-care Devotional was published on Feb. 1, 2024, and is available for purchase.โฃ

โ€˜Life is Messy, God is Goodโ€™ by Cynthia Yanof was a great read with a lighthearted, straight-forward, laid-back tone that made it easy to follow along and relate to. The book offers tips on a variety of topics, including marriage, family, travel, church, and more. I liked that each chapter had a thought-provoking โ€˜messy truthโ€™.

Chapters 1 and 6 spoke to me the most. Chapter 1 speaks on understanding the significance of being uniquely anointed by God. Being anointed isnโ€™t just a title or label; it symbolizes a divine appointment for us to impact the world around us. When we walk in God's obedience, we become vessels of change. We shouldnโ€™t be discouraged by the size of our calling or compare our purpose to someone else's, like we sometimes do. We are uniquely tailored to fulfill unique assignments.

Chapter 6 delves into a topic that resonates deeply with some Christians: church hurt. Sadly, many people have deeply experienced church hurt to the extent that they've abandoned their faith. I liked that the author doesn't assign blame or try to guilt those who have turned away; instead, she focuses on the pain that can result from such experiences.

If you've experienced church hurt, it's important to remember that flawed church folks aren't God. Amidst the hurt, let's remember that God's love and grace are constant, and his goodness extends beyond the imperfections of any church. Letโ€™s not allow past hurts to discourage us from finding a place where we can experience the goodness of God in the midst of imperfect people. Find a Bible-believing community that shares your values and provides genuine fellowship and support. There isnโ€™t a church thatโ€™s without flaws, but we can still strive to grow and improve together.

There were lots of references to the author's personal life in some chapters that made them read like a memoir. I get that it's important to use personal experiences to make the topic more real, but I would've liked for the chapters to focus much more on the lessons.

Nonetheless, a great book with plenty to take from. I highly recommend!

I was gifted an ARC by DCC .c.cook in exchange for an honest review!๐Ÿ’

To say Iโ€™m happy to see 'When the Dogs Bark' LIVE in the marketplace is an understatement!! William Roushey Jr. (Bill) is an incredible writer, and Iโ€™m not simply saying that because I may be biased since Bill is a former client of mine. It is the absolute TRUTH.

'When the Dogs Bark' made me see things in new and revelatory ways, specifically our relationship with God as born-again Christians, and even though the book may appeal more to those who own dogs or love animals in general, I believe those who don't necessarily fit into this category can still learn a lot from it. Without giving away too much, here's the synopsis below. Grab a copy NOW when you canโ€”it's a superb read.

What better way to start off Black History Month than the release of this romantic fairy tale about the princess of Oloro Ilรฉ, a fictional island kingdom in Africa๐Ÿ”ฅ

Brielle Adebayo is fully content teaching at a New York City public school and taking annual summer vacations with her mother to Martha's Vineyard. But everything changes when her mom drops a bombshell--Brielle is really a princess in the island kingdom of แปŒlแปrแป Ilรฉ, off the coast of Africa, and she must immediately assume her royal position, since the health of her grandfather, the king, is failing. Brielle is uncertain if she wants the throne, and with her world totally shaken, where will she find the courage to take a chance on love and brave the perils a wrong decision may bring?

Thanks to and author for the digital ARC of 'In Search of a Prince'. I look forward to enjoying this!๐Ÿ‘

Our Story

Literature is the use of words to paint a picture of life as we see it, life as we hope to see it, life as we wish it were, or perhaps life as it never will be. These arrangement of words can change the way we experience things, and even the way we see ourselves. Literary words open our eyes to comprehend things the way we never have, to learn, to appreciate, to give, and to share.
