The Senate confirmed Merrick Garland to lead the nation's Justice Department and serve as the Attorney General under the Biden administration in a 70-30 vote -- which is pretty bipartisan these days, don’t ya think?!!
Twenty Republicans crossed party lines to confirm, which is also slightly more than the number needed to convict former President Trump of impeachment, BUT IT'S FINE I'M NOT COUNTING OR ANYTHING.
You might remember old Mer'k from back in 2016, when former President Obama nominated him as a Supreme Court Justice to fill the spot of late Anthony Scalia after he died in Feb. 2016. I'd just like to point out, Mitch McConnell released a statement in SPRING OF 2016 saying the GOP would NOT consider any SCOTUS nominee from Obama because the job should be left up to the next President of the U.S. … enter, Trump and Kavanaugh. But like, we all remember what just happened back in September a-la RBG and ACB. Can you spell H-Y-P-O-C-R-I-S-Y ?
But anyway, becoming the chief legal officer of the U.S. is quite a hefty role following Trump's administration whom frequently politicized the position. Garland says his biggest priorities will be to hold those involved in the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection accountable, fend off partisanship, and "be a straight shooter."
I'll allow it.
