Lorenzo Driving Competition—2022 (by Linda Rogers)
Several CVDC members who train under Cynthia Bliven at her Woodland Farm in Lyme, CT enjoyed competing this July at the three-day Lorenzo Driving Competition, a prestigious driving competition in beautiful historic Cazenovia, NY, and the oldest ADS recognized pleasure driving show in the country. Team Woodland Farm had quite an impressive showing which is a testament to Cynthia’s great ability as a driving instructor! Here are Team Woodland Farm results:
Michelle Hulse with groom Cynthia Bliven driving pony pair Spencer and Chloe - Reserve Champion (Pair/Tandem Division)
Erica Robb driving her Morgan Pepper-Reserve Champion (Utility Division)
Stephanie Gill-Manville driving her small pony Coco- Champion (Small Single Pony Division) and Reserve Grand Champion (Single Pony Division)
Linda Rogers with groom Binky King driving Linda’s Morgan Bravo – Reserve Champion (Single Two/Four Wheel Horse Division)
Stephanie and Coco also won two perpetual trophies; the Sharon Rudnick Perpetual Memorial Trophy given to the small single pony accumulating the most points in their appropriate classes, and the Margaret Sawmiller Perpetual Memorial Trophy given to the single pony accumulating the most points in obstacle classes during two days of competition.
Linda, Binky and Bravo also won the Margaret F. Hubbard Perpetual Memorial Trophy for Best Score on the Pleasure Drive, coming in two seconds off the ideal time.
Michelle and Cynthia, Linda and Binky, and Stephanie competed in the popular Picnic Class which showcases the driver’s reinsmanship and the ability to set a festive table complete with homemade goodies for the judge to sample. Michelle and Cynthia took the blue ribbon, Linda and Binky took 2nd and Stephanie took 4th
place.
Binky drove Bravo in the very competitive Groom’s class and took 4th place.
Special thanks to fellow CVDC members Nancy Cleary, who drove to Lorenzo to support the entire team and to care for Erica’s grandson so she could compete, and to Rita Bellinger for loaning Linda her beautiful leather harness so Bravo could look even more handsome! And we can’t leave out Linda’s sister Joanne Rankin from upstate NY who kept the team well fed with her delicious goodies! It takes a village!
