Well… today while inspecting utility poles in South Gate near L.A., two guys wearing grey hoodies ran past me - twice.

I was 3-4 blocks from my truck.

When I walked back to my truck, police were on scene where someone (those two guys) had fired a gun. No injuries as far as I could tell, but those guy were still on the run when I got back to my truck.

While packing up, this helicopter showed up. They were using the loudspeaker to tell the suspects to lay down their weapons and put their hands up. The helicopter continued to circle for a while even after I left the site.

Obviously can’t fly a drone while a manned aircraft is circling. No more work today. Nathan Alber
I’ll return tomorrow or Monday when things settle down a bit.

This has been an eventful project. Events so far:

1. A passerby had a seizure near my landing pad while walking his dog. He fell and had multiple abrasions. I called 911 and work stopped until the first responders cleared the area.
2. I was approached by multiple people demanding I explain while I was flying a drone.
3. Police were called on me multiple times.
4. Police arrived once and investigated the situation. I had to stop work for 30-45 minutes to handle that, including walking 3 blocks back to my truck giving 4 forms of ID and running my license plate.
5. A homeowner cursed me out for “droning him” . The same guy was putting out Christmas decor, some of which was the nativity scene. F-bombs all over. Unreasonable guy in Pasadena.
6. Criminals running by me after allegedly firing a gun in a residential area, resulting in a significant police response, and a helicopter circling the area forcing a no-fly zone.

Hopefully it doesn’t get much more eventful before I head home!
