Okonkole Y Trompa Music blog and radio show on NTS, run by Satoshi Yamamura & PAM. Uploading music we like, on a regular basis, ripped from our personal collection.
(3)

PAM was introduced to Satoshi by Dave – the man behind L’International Records, Parisian (best) record shop – as “the guy who’s got that Vito Ricci record you’re talking about”. Since then, the two have been digging records together, sharing with their friends their favourite finds. We’ve been thinking about a way to give access to this music to a broader audience as well as promoting artists who,

they thought, deserved greater recognition. We finally came up with Okonkole Y Trompa, a site on which we upload, on a regular basis, songs that were not available on the Internet - ripped from our personal record collection. Tracks are either uploaded in the Music From The Living Room section or the Music From The Club section whether they deserve to be played at a listening session at home or at a crowded party.

That's it, the final episode of a 6 year long residency on NTS. The 69th episode. Nothing special really, no guest, no theme, just a little coda from Okonkole Y Trompa, with music dear to my heart.

Join us one last time on NTS Radio, this afternoon, at 5 (UK time) 🤍

That’s it, I just wrote my very last article on Okonkole Y Trompa. I could have let it die slowly but I wanted to round things off with a few last words. I also uploaded songs on YouTube to end things well.

Okonkole Y Trompa has played a great part in my life, and, of all things, I’m most thankful for the people I met online and offline thanks to OYT.

Shout out to them, and shout out to Satoshi, of course, without whom OYT would have never existed.

This is the end of Okonkole Y Trompa. I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone; nothing happened here for quite a while now, I did not even bother to repost the NTS show on the blog this year…

Our latest NTS Radio transmission loosely reflects on Sebald’s 1995 novel “The Rings of Saturn” and the hit tune “My Favorite Things”. Mélanie Matranga took over the second hour and offered a beautiful mix that perfectly suits this early autumn weekend 🐚

Playing Soundtrack, Folk, Modal, Spiritual Jazz. My Favorite Things Will Never Rot. The first hour of this program loosely reflects on W.G. Sebald's 1995 novel 'The Rings of Saturn', as well as the hit tune from the Sound Of Music, 'My Favorite Things'. It is followed by a guest mix by French artist...

Last week I was joined by C.W. Winter on NTS Radio. He provided a 60 min edit of music and sounds from The Works and Days, a film he co-directed with Anders Edström (Best Film, Berlinale 2020 - Encounters). I also ventured in the sound collage field with a 60 min mix about mopeds. Probably a cooling show to listen to in this furnace.

Playing Post Rock, Field Recordings, Folk, Country. Director C.W. After a screening of The Works And Days by C.W. Winter & Anders Edström I asked C.W. Winter if he would like to contribute to the show in some way or another. He emailed me a 60 minute edit of sounds and music used in the film last week. I'm very happy to host a sonic counterpoint to one of the great cinematic experiences of this past few years on NTS Radio, today at 5PM(UK)/6PM(FR).

For the third year in a row, I asked Carlos to join me on the show and again, he blessed us with a boundless mix that will air on NTS at 5(UK)/6(EU) today. Proper "through space and time" kind of show, with music composed centuries apart 🧶

Phew, seems like the last show was ages ago - it wasn't. These past days have been stretching themselves without me noticing. Happy to be back, joined by my new neighbour, Mosca Mu**ta aka Alain Garcia who graced us with a 1h mix of 🌀, ⚙️ and 🎸

Today's show on NTS Radio was recorded during one of the worst hangovers I've ever dealt with, and recording it definitively helped get through this serotonin void. I'm feeling much better and this hazy monday is already a distant memory (how can we forget so fast how miserable we were the day before ? wonders of the brain). Hope it can sooth your hungover soul as well 💜

A few months ago, DJ F16 Falcon offered to record a mix of music composed by Daniel Masson, who worked as an in-house composer at Ubisoft throughout the 1990's.
It aired a few days ago on NTS Radio, after a selection of my favourite video games' soundtracks. Here's our joint effort :

A few months ago, DJ F16 Falcon told me that he has been chatting with Daniel Masson, a French musician who composed the soundtrack to one of his favourite PC games, Pod. It turned out that Daniel …

First Video Game Music special on OYT will air this afternoon on NTS Radio. I'll play personal favourites for the first 75 minutes before a Daniel Masson special mix by DJ F16 Falcon. Daniel Masson was an in-house composer at Ubisoft in the mid 1990's who helped shape the rich, distinctive sound of the studio's PC productions. Abstract Realism at its finest 🧿

Good morning Cali 🌄
Caleys Sweetnsour is a Los Angeles-based artist who has been discreetly sharing music via mixes and even a YouTube channel 🤫 Anyway, we’ve been chatting about music and things for a while and it felt like it was now time to have her on the NTS Radio show for some genuinely raw, punk energy from all over the world

Ella Blou is a British designer and DJ, host of Transcient Landscape on Skylab Radio. I absolutely love her work as a designer and as a DJ and I'm so pleased to have her on the show, today on NTS Radio. We sort of subconsciously coordinated our effort to record the show as we share an unconditional love for little plastic thingies among other things and had lengthy discussions about it.
As Ella puts it, the mix is "mostly songs that I associate with the playful textures and patterns of childhood in that its quite emotionally squishy, digitally restless and maybe even plastic-y? There are also some jazz/easy-listening/saudade moments in there as well that feel reminiscent of dreams from that time ~ i also like that there is more than one track with food it in it haha."
Tune in at 5PM on NTS Radio 💙

I often think of music as a kind of mental map that imperfectly matches the planispheres that were hanging on the wall of my elementary school. Some of these lands are like places I would have paced long enough to know their boundaries and musical colors. Sometimes, I stumble upon a record that feels like the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle I use to believe was complete. That's what Nico Selves's La Libretá is to me, the missing piece from the psychedelic Amazonian jazz rock puzzle, that only revealed itself in 2019.

I had this record for many years but I think I enjoy it even more now that I had the curiosity to listen to more music from the band. They clearly are in a state of grace on this song : indeed, it is a study about motion and time, in a perpetual movement itself. It's also a summer favourite as it recalls happy memories of late afternoon suns, sitting in hayfields, probably coming down from an acid trip.

Today, I'll be joined by another NTS Radio resident, Andrea Zarza Canova. You probably never saw her name on the NTS website though, as Andrea is behind the British Library Sound Archive show, that showcases the Library's gigantic collection of ethnomusicological and field recordings. So, what does a sound archivist at the British Library listen to when she's off duty ? Let's find out at 5PM (GMT) 6PM (GMT+1)

Last week, Lucia Kagramanyan who hosts Panorama Yerevan joined me on my NTS Radio show. Seems like summer drew us all back to teenage memories as both Lucia & I recorded a mix that could appeal to our teenage selves : featuring my bloody valentine, Sonic Youth, Boards of Canada & a Radiohead cover… songs that evoke those summer thunderstorms that I have always loved – always will.

I first thought about inviting Lucia Kagramanyan on the show a while ago, way before she started a residency on NTS Radio. I highly recommend her show, Panorama Yerevan, that strictly showcases music from Armenia. I offered her to play whatever she wanted for the second hour of today's show. Let's see where she'll be taking us to 🌐

Today, I'll be joined by Alice De Jode aka Miniature on NTS Radio. She works there fulltime and for the past few years she has been taking care of the OYT show. So, it's only fair to get her on the show. We met IRL and recorded a sun-drenched B2B --> on air at 5PM (GMT) 🔆

Last week, I invited myself on NTS Radio and my guest-self came up with another French 7" special. Partly focusing on the last years of the format's heydays, just before CD's became affordable, there are a few French Nu-Jack Swing cuts worth listening to. Expect the classic OYT mixed bag of post-punk, jazz etc. as a 60 minute-long starter. Have a nice and sunny week-end 🔆

Playing Synth Pop, Indie Rock, Chanson, Classic Rock. PAM & Satoshi from the blog Okonkole Y Trompa select 2 hours of records from their collection for NTS.
