As well as our prizes for Best Senior Band, Best Junior Band, and Best Original Song, we also have 2 special awards that are given to individuals at the discretion of the adjudicators. These awards are given in memory of 2 amazing people, who gave so much to the Island's music community, and who were especially supportive of young musicians.

The Jonno Award - Jonno Gollow was a music promoter and a member of the Soundcheck Charity and the IOM Arts Council. He brought some incredible musicians over to the Island to perform, and was always keen to give the support slots to young musicians. He was a keen musician in his own right too!

The Anglin Award - Anglin Buttimore was an incredible pianist, and worked as a sound engineer on Island for decades! Every musician on the Island had come into contact with him at some point, and he had infinite patience for everyone, and especially young bands on their first gigs.

We know that they'd be the first people helping us to run this competition, and we're really happy to be able to keep their memory alive through these awards!

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Soundcheck Charity for supporting this event once again! They really have been incredible with both financial support, and manpower on the day!

We really believe that we should bring an industry professional over to judge the bands. Firstly because they are a neutral party, and secondly because they have a wealth of information and experience to pass on to the students. We also believe that there should be a good financial reward for the winning bands, and we know that most of the bands in previous years have invested this money in equipment, which helps them to continue improving! We are also really keen to make live music accessible for under 18's, and it's always our policy to have free tickets for under 18s.

We wouldn't be able to achieve any of these aims without Soundcheck Charity's generous help!

Along with our prizes for the best Junior and Senior bands, we also have the Jonno Award and the Anglin award. These prizes can be given out to performers who impress the judges individually or for anything else that they feel needs recognising. They are given out in memory of 2 dearly departed friends.

Jonno was a huge supporter of live music who promoted bands on the island, and his passion for great music meant he brought over artists that normally wouldn't get to come over. Always happy to chat about music and bands and entertainment, or complain about there not being enough music!

Anglin was another massive presence in the music world on the Island. A sound engineer working all over the island and at the Villa, he was known to almost all the musicians here, but he was also an astoundingly good keyboard player with a rich history and making music.

We honour both of these departed giants with awards in their names. Gone but never forgotten.

We posted about the free workshop, but who exactly is our guest Judge Thomas Cameron?

'Singing sensation' Thomas Cameron is a charismatic young English tenor, whose powerful voice has been described as having velvet-like qualities and is making waves in the world of classical music. Since 2018 Thomas has worked with a number of top industry professionals, such as
Irish music producer Robert Macleod (Universal, Grapevine Records, Bwitched) and sound engineer Scott Barnett (Peter Gabriel, Beyoncé) and he has recorded at the world famous Real World Studio and at Abbey Road.

Thomas was nominated for a Classical Brit Award at the 2018 ceremony held at The Royal Albert Hall. He was entered into the 'Sound of Classical Poll' category, shining a light on the future of classical music.

Thomas has worked with a number of songwriters from across the globe on some very exciting projects. These include songwriters from Sweden, America, Australia and Ireland. This has led to Thomas expanding into other countries and growing a fanbase in different corners of the world.

Thomas' new single 'Nothing Lasts Forever' with Pat Fagan went straight to Number 1 of the Amazon Broadway Hot Releases within just 12 hours of release and remained there for 5 weeks. Following this, Thomas released 'Bring Him Home' on all major platforms which also went straight to number one of the Amazon Broadway Hot Releases and Best Sellers, as well as reaching the overall top 40.

Thomas has his own radio show - firstly on Ocean City Radio, but he joined True Radio UK in March 2022. Some of his special guests have included: Suzi Quatro, Boney M (Liz Mitchell), Cheryl Baker, Chesney Hawkes, CHIC (Richard Hilton), Earth Wind and Fire (Serg Dimirtijevic), Imagination (Leee John), Sydney Youngblood, Spandau Ballet (Steve Norman), The Communards (Sarah Jane Morris), The Brand New Heavies, Ruti, Dr and The Medics, Glen Matlock from The S*x Pistols, ELO's Milton McDonald, Owen Paul and Harleymoon Kemp.

Nearly competition time!

All of the bands should have had all the info over email, but just in case, here's what's happening this Sunday (13th). Everything is in Peel Centenary Centre.

11am songwriting workshop with Christian Phillips. Please send us a quick message if you plan on coming.
2pm senior heats (all bands to be there by 1:30pm). Friends and family are welcome to come and watch and it is free.
6:30pm main competition (all bands to be there by 6pm). The cost is £5 per adult and all under 18s are free. The competition will be finished by 9pm at the latest.

The Governor is going to be in attendance, so if everyone could be in their seats by 6:25pm, that would be amazing!

Looking forward to supporting all our amazing young bands now!

Wahoo! Lots of entries coming in :) Thanks everyone. If you haven't entered yet and still want to, we'll give you to the end of half term. With £500 up for grabs, among other amazing prizes, it would be silly not to!
