*Red Salute to the valiant fighters of 1946 and 1960 Central Employees Strikes!*

Today, 11th July 2024, is the 78th Anniversary of the 1946 P & T strike, which is also considered as part of the Independent Struggle and also the 64th Anniversary of 5 days strike of Central government employees strike in 1960 against which the entire cruel machinery of the government was used to suppress the same. Pandit Nehru who led the 1946 strike described the 1960 strike as civil rebellion.

While the British govt was compelled to negotiate and agree for all the demands raised in the 1946 strike, the govt of free India dealt the 1960 Strike as a political strike and suppressed it using the army and all draconian rules, arresting thousands of leaders and workers as also dismissing tens of thousands. 17 comrades became Martyrs in that strike being shot down, crushed under train, beaten up etc.

Workers can not be kept silent for long. Another historic strike was organised on 19th September 1968 on the same demands as in 1960.

*No strike is in vain*.

It is through such heroic strikes that workers have achieved their rightful demands.

Red Salute to the Martyrs who laid down their valuable lives in these struggles!

Workers will continue their struggles and move forward in the route shown by them.

WFTU statement on the World Day Against Child Labour

The World Federation of Trade Unions, the militant voice of 105 million workers who live, work, and struggle in 133 countries of the 5 continents, reaffirms that the class-oriented trade union movement is fundamentally opposed and timelessly struggles against the capitalist exploitation and particularly the inhumane and bloody child labour.

On the occasion of June 12th, World Day Against Child Labor, we strongly condemn the barbaric exploitation of children as cheap labor force all over the world. Even in the most advanced economies, underage exploitation is a fact, and childhood is stolen from children. The big capital monopolies, driven by their endless thirst for profits exploit the children as cheap labor. Especially amid the capitalist crisis and the deepening of intra-imperialist rivalries, the exploitation of children is intensifying even more, always with a view to maximizing the profits of multinationals. Child workers are mainly employed in the sectors of agriculture, fishing, and mining, while other children work even as modern-day slaves.

As the world’s class-oriented trade union movement, the WFTU organizes with unwavering commitment our struggle for the abolition of child labour and for the total protection of ALL children’s rights:

– The children’s right to proper nutrition and healthcare in a world where thousands of children die daily, because of lack of food and while hunger is responsible for half of child deaths in Africa.

– Public free and compulsory education for all children.

– Recreation and access to leisure activities that develop the children’s personality and talents.

We demand all the necessary measures to be promptly taken for the adequate protection of children from child labor, as well as for the covering of all of their contemporary needs. The international class-oriented trade union movement intensifies its struggle and initiatives against child labour and all forms of exploitation.

The points highlighted are: Appreciation to Greece Comrades; Total support to all documents presented by leadership; India organising well all the pensioners in all States of India every year to the Oct 1st call of TUI; Two requests to WFTU leaders for earmarking one leader in each country as requested already by our GS and to help in our region of Asia too to link up with Pensioners movement; In India from 3 to presently 5 and soon 10.class conscious Pensioners Assn in TUI; Anti-worker and anti-pensioners character of Indian Govt where the BSNL pensioners are denied updation since 2016 - Bank and LIC pensioners denied any updation since the grant of pension to them decades ago despite the GS of TUI for financial services is also the leader of employees union in banks and WFTU please intervene; EPF and NPS pensioners pathetic condition; and our efforts to stand with the working class including getting arrest along with central trade unions in states like Tamilnadu. - KR Secretary General NCCPA

The Post office mail in evening to RMS/Stg offices on 22.01.2024 will be despatched as usual.

The morning MMS/DMMS schedules may be suspended and then operation may be reworked to carry mails to/from PO & RMS/Stg units after 14.30 hrs.

The HROS/SROs should make minimum staff available for receipt and dispatch of bags at RMS points from sections/RTN/Flight wherever receipts are due.

Regional PMGs can take further suitable action if any required to avoid dislocation/loss of mail bags.

The notional increment for those who retired on 30th June is being granted by the postal directorate who obtained favourable judgements from CAT .

As the honourable supreme court has already dismissed the appeal/review petitions filed by the department against the Madras High court order granting one notional increment to those who retired on 30th June/30th December , it is easy to get a favourable judgement from CAT and thereby one increment can be earned from July 1st of the year succeeding the year of retirement. The directorate has already issued orders in this regard in respect of officials who have approached in the CAT in their respective circle like Maharashtra, Rajastan etc. A similar OA can be filed in CAT Ernakulam also and I request that those who are eligible to get the notional increment by virtue of their retirement falling on 30th June/30th December may inform their willingness to file an OA before CAT Chennai
