BMR is an annual literary journal publishing poems, fiction, creative nonfiction, and plays.

Published in partnership by the Allegany Arts Council, the Allegany County Library System and the Frostburg Center for Creative Writing, we accept submissions of poetry, fiction, drama, and creative nonfiction from any writers living in, connected to, or writing about the region.

Save the date! We at Backbone Mountain Review are thrilled to announce that we will have hard copies of the special BMR 2022-2023 double issue on hand March 26!

Thank you to all 2022 contributors who have beared with us and been patient with us while we get back on track post-Covid!

2022 and 2023 contributors: you can start checking your submission email address next weekend; I expect the last editorial team to report their 2023 decisions this week, and we’ll need updated or confirmed bios by February 5 to make that production deadline.

BMR IS BACK (!) and we are so humbled that all of you have stayed with us through these trying times. Thank you for your continued support!
