Pensacon is pleased to welcome a true pop culture icon and Star Trek's Hikaru Sulu - actor, author, activist and online raconteur George Takei!
George Takei is best known for his beloved role as Hikaru Sulu on the original “Star Trek” series, beginning in 1966. Takei has continued to portray Sulu through Star Trek: The Animated Series, six feature films, an episode of Star Trek: Voyager and multiple video games.
In addition to the Star Trek franchise and too many television guest roles to mention, Takei is known for films such as The Green Berets, the original animated Mulan and Kubo and the Two Strings, and for recurring roles on series such as Heroes.
As a pop culture icon, he’s also frequently appeared as himself in movies and on televsion, including appearances in You Don’t Mess With the Zohan, Entourage, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Futurama, Malcolm in the Middle, Psych, Will & Grace, The Big Bang Theory and Community.
Notably, he was also the first major Star Trek star to cross over to the Star Wars universe, playing Lok Durd in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.Takei also serves as a frequent guest announcer for The Howard Stern Show on Sirius XM satellite radio.
Takei is well-known as an online presence, using his social media platforms to share humor and activism with millions of followers. As a young Japanese-American boy, he was placed in an internment camp during World War II and has since been a staunch advocate for immigrants and the Asian-American community. Coming out as gay in 2005, he has also been a prominent voice for the LGBTQ community ever since.
