The screenwriter of Marvel's BLACK WIDOW, GODZILLA VS. KONG, and THOR: RAGNAROK will join Ohina executive director Gerard Elmore and education director Brian Watanabe, plus other assorted ‘Ohina pros, for a creative talk story online.

This Labs Dialogue with Eric Pearson also happens to be the last day for short script submissions to apply for the 2021 ‘Ohina Filmmakers Lab workshop (and the opportunity for a filmmaker to win support towards the completion of their future film). Visit ohina.org to learn more!

Get those submissions in—and we'll see you next Friday at 1 pm HST, for an exclusive ‘Ohina Labs Dialogue with Eric Pearson!

Our first ever film is still going...

The Seattle Asian American Film Festival (SAAFF) is the only film festival in Seattle providing a space for Asian American voices, perspectives, and histories by screening indie films that reflect the diversity and richness of local Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. We're proud to announce that, among this year's dynamic SAAFF shorts programs, ʻOhina Greenlight Award-winning Kālewa The Film (from awesome writer and director Mitchel Viernes) has been selected for the Thrills, Chills, and Things Gone Wrong category!

SAAFF is also set to spotlight six local films as part of its Looking Past Paradise: Shorts from Hawai‘i program: THE MOON AND THE NIGHT (initially developed through ʻOhina Labs with rad writer and director Erin Lau and co-writer Justin Omori), MOLOKA‘I BOUND (from badass director Alika Maikau, a fellow of the ʻOhina Labs inaugural cohort with his film MAUKA TO MAKAI), plus HAWAIIAN SOUL, THIS IS THE WAY WE RISE, KAPAEMAHU, and STANDING ABOVE THE CLOUDS.

Congratulations to all the filmmakers selected for this important festival, presented online now until March 14! To watch the festival's virtual screenings, learn more about the festival schedule and live events, please visit http://www.seattleaaff.org or purchase tickets at bit.ly/saaffpass. Keep in mind that these films are also eligible to win audience awards at SAAFF so be sure to cast a vote for your favorite films!

Please Note: You will not be able to start watching films until the Festival begins on March 4, 2021. All festival passes only allot 1 ticket per program. Films are not rated for content and viewer discretion is advised. All film are available to viewers within the United States, unless otherwise no...

Looking forward to making some movies together!!!

Need help funding your short film about the Pacific Islander experience? Applications for the Shorts Fund will be open starting April 8th until May 14th at 5 PM HST!

The Shorts Fund, previously known as Digital Shorts Fund, provides funding of up to $25,000 for the completion of fiction and non-fiction short content of untold stories and fresh perspectives on the indigenous Pacific Islander experience. A couple things are new this year: In addition to selecting projects for digital distribution, the Shorts Fund will also be looking for projects that have potential to broadcast on national public television. And we are excited to announce a collaboration with Ohina Films, which will maximize opportunities for the awarded filmmakers, including participation in the 2021 Ohina Labs! Stay tuned for more details on this dynamic partnership and funding opportunity!
