Geburtstag gefeiert.

Habt ihr einen Lieblingssong von ihr?

Remembering Tex Beneke on his birthday!! 💙

Gordon Lee "Tex" Beneke (February 12, 1914 – May 30, 2000)
was an American saxophonist, singer, and bandleader. His career is a history of associations with bandleader Glenn Miller and former musicians and singers who worked with Miller. His band is also associated with the careers of Eydie Gorme, Henry Mancini and Ronnie Deauville. Beneke also solos on the recording the Glenn Miller Orchestra made of their popular song "In The Mood" and sings on another popular Glenn Miller recording, "Chattanooga Choo Choo". Jazz critic Will Friedwald considers Beneke to be one of the major blues singers who sang with the big bands of the early 1940s

Remembering Al Jarreau!! 💙

Alwin Lopez "Al" Jarreau (March 12, 1940 – February 12, 2017) was an American jazz singer. He won seven Grammy Awards and was nominated for over a dozen more. He is perhaps best known for his 1981 album Breakin' Away, for having sung the theme song of the late-1980s television series Moonlighting, and as a performer in the 1985 charity song "We Are the World".

"Miles Smiles," the second album of Miles Davis' Second Great Quintet (feat. Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and , alongside Miles and Yours Truly) released in February of 1967.

Miles was particularly proud of the band’s growth on this album. He said, “you can really hear us pulling away, stretching out.”

Though two of the songs from Miles Smiles-- "Ginger Bread Boy" and Wayne's famous "Footprints"-- would become part of our regular concert repertoire, we never played exactly the same from one performance to the next. We were the chemicals and Miles was the head chemist. Every night we combined and came up with something new.

On this day in 1958, Duke Ellington wrapped up several days of recording that would result in the 1958 masterpiece album Black, Brown, and Beige. Offering up a modified version of the work he unveiled in 1943, Duke brought in a truly remarkable guest for the 1958 version: vocalist Mahalia Jackson. Making one of her rare recorded appearances in a secular music setting, Jackson delivered truly breathtaking renditions of "Come Sunday" and of the 23rd Psalm. While no complete studio version by Duke of the 1943 arrangement exists (though its Carnegie Hall appearance was recorded), this 1958 version nevertheless stands as one of his finest recorded outings, made all the more magical by Mahalia Jackson's legendary vocal work.

On March 16, check out Jazz at Lincoln Center's Family Concert: Who is Mahalia Jackson featuring the JLCO with special guest vocalist Tammy McCann. For info, jazz.org/mahalia

"My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet, you're my favorite work of art
Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?
But don't change your hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay, little valentine, stay
Each day is Valentine's Day"
