SOUTHSIDE FM RADIO
Post newspaper asked me for an update on our radio station but their headline, intro and some of the body did not reflect what I sent them.
Here's the report I wrote for them:
The community radio station, Southside FM, is continuing with its negotiations for a frequency in the Durban and surrounding areas before it can start broadcasting.
The chairman of Southside FM Radio, Mr Balan Gounder, said in a statement that they had been negotiating for sometime with ICASA and Sentech for a frequency in the Durban region.
"Since our highly successful cultural evening and fund-raising dinner at the MTSS in Merebank on February 25, we have made a number of representations for a frequency," he said.
The former Minister of Communications and current Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Roy Padaychee, and a prominent Durban businessman had also taken up the matter on their behalf.
"We have now been informed that we could use frequencies available in Pietermaritzburg and Port Shepstone but these areas don't fit our target market at the moment.
"Our main initial target market is the Durban region and the north and south coast regions. Ultimately we would like to cover the Pietermaritzburg, Ladysmith, and Newcastle regions in KZN; the Johannesburg-Pretoria region; Cape Town and Port Elizabeth-East London areas."
The radio station was also currently involved in negotiations to set up a studio and office at the MTSS in Merebank.
Those interested in becoming involved with the radio station as presenters and news readers should contact Mr Subry Govender on 031 - 568 1309/082 376 9053 or
